Wow an interesting thread! Well done. I would go for 20 in the league. Barnes, Bucks and Vicente will chip in with a few. Still leaves us well short of goals for the season though so need another striker. Sorry just made the thread boring............

I'm goner defend cms and any other striker we have by saying our style of play in the championship doesn't suit any striker full stop, poor service and negative tactics especially away from home is the real problem.

If we can give him some decent service & he can improve his finishing then 20 is a realistic target.

That sounds like a honest comment from a grass roots supporter who is a genuine fan...

I will expect a 'goal a game' otherwise I will be cutting up my season ticket after the first game that he doesn't score. I'm serious too!!!!!

I wnt to see him turn and shoot and score like he did against Leeds. A bit like a slow motion Peter Ward. Or to beat the keeper in a one to one.

More than last season..but then the rest of them need to start chipping in too....it's about time some of those tall bods (Calderon excluded) look as the they might nod one in ...Bruno and Bridges look as though they've got an eye for goal

Good thread, I've been meaning to ask the same thing for a while. I'm not entering into the 'is he good enough' debate again, but I have been wondering what the return needs to be for his detractors to get off his back. Say for example he's top scorer with 11, but Barnes gets 10, Vicente 9, Buckley 8 and Crofts 7. That's 45 goals from 5 players and without counting in LuaLua, Noone, Hoskins, Calderon, another striker (if we sign one), the centre backs (who didn't contribute as many goals last season as would be expected from set pieces)...we could easily get to 60-70 goals which is 1.5 a game and roughly play-off territory. Would that be deemed enough? Or if he got 25, but nobody else made it past 6 or 7, would that be enough?

I personally think he will be better than last season but still unlikely to get more than 15/16, would love to be proven wrong but I don't think we put the ball where he wants it often enough. It's so frustrating watching from WSU as he points where he wants it, makes a run across the face of a centre back and spins off in behind, chasing down a through-ball which never comes as we stop and spread it sideways to a full-back. Or he curves a run to the far post, pulling a CB out of position as our winger gets past an oppo full-back, then he darts back the other way to get infront of a CB for the low ball across the 6-yard box and a tap-in...only for us to stand it up over his head or cut it back behind his run. By the end of the season he just looked like he wanted a hug, chasing lost causes 90% of the time and making great moves the other 10%, but never actually receiving the pass.

If he is played as the only striker then probably 20+. By looking at the pre season we have I can see the goals being spread pretty evenly with CMS, Barnes, Vicente, Hoskins and Buckley all getting around 10/15
