Huh? Are you suggesting shots and headers are mutually exclusive? If you head the ball you can't be shooting?

He dived to head the ball towards the goal, he caught it ith the side of his head and it screwed off across the goal (though I agree, still on target). But it was a shot.

I guess the stats will deem it to be a shot on goal, but most normal people in conversation would call it a header non?

Lets hope he can stop having stinkers when we play half decent/decent sides and keep up this type of goalscoring performance. A dreadful Barnsley side was a major player in todays performance. But you can only beat whats put in front of you!!

Last season he scored against Cardiff (three times), Birmingham and Blackpool, all of which/whom finished in the play offs, one of which/whom made it to the league cup final. He also scored against premier league fa cup finalist league cup winners multiple time european champions liverpool, and in pre-season scored and played a blinder against current champions of europe and top premier league team chelsea.

You mentioned 5 games out of a possible 40-50 ish.

Like i said he needs to be a more consistent performer. Yesterday, he set his own standards and had a good game.

Also, just because you may score a goal it doesnt mean you played a blinder!! A penatly against liverpool hardly makes a case for a 10/10 performance.

Wait, so 40-50 games last season were against decent opposition? Well, then all of his good to great performances last season musty have been against decent opposition. You narrowed the parameters to decent teams, that's why I limited it to top 6 and prem teams. He also scored/performed against other teams in the top 15 of the campionship if you want to open it up to teams slightly worse than us. Someone else mentioned he never scores against top opposition (might not have been in this thread, might have been in the post-barnsley barnes haters thread), I was answering the general sentiment underlying both these points.

I didn't claim any of those performances were 10/10. I was very clear, those are the teams he scored against. Top teams he scored against. We're in the championship, most of our players came up from league one. Of course they all have aspects of their game to work on, or else they wouldn't have been with us, then or now. Barnes does need to work on consistency, but there's a difference between "not being consistent" and "not getting the job done against tougher opponents". The former applies, the latter does not, imo.

Without going through every game last year or this, The underlying problem with Barnes is that he needs to develop into a more consistent performer IMO of course.

It doesn't matter if the ball was going in or going wide, if another player got even the faintest of touches it is there goal. As CMS touched both - Barnes only scored twice.

(From a Barnes fan)

The correct answer is, of course, two. However Barnes is a bit unlucky with CMS's first, because if it had flicked off a defender then it would have been awarded to Barnes because it was already on target. It's impossible to say whether or not CMS's second would have gone in without the extra touch, so he definitely gets the credit for that one.

So you voted '3' then?
