One - provided they can be bothered to get out of the bath.

35 years ago today Jim Morrison died. Vastly over-rated group in my opinion - a fairly standard west-coast blues group with a decent organ player who managed to inspire a handful of decent songs. As for Morrison's 'poetry' - f***ing stroll on, per-lease.

Definitely a triumph of marketing over content.

They've since come to be regarded as legends, largely based on myth, but at the time, they were basically insignificant in the UK.

Much like Keith Moon then, except Morrison is a BIGGER legend worldwide :) (except the UK bit )

Must be crap then. I know which country I would rather have been significant in in the '60's and '70's.

I'm a big fan of the doors. I especially like the way they let you into and out of the buildings.

and the movies, and songwriting, and singing, possibly not drumming. Probably neck and neck in how to be an arsehole stakes though.

It didn't exactly take the country by storm - it reached number 43.

Being a sad anorak I was forced to consult my aging copy of the Guinness Book of British Hit Albums at this point.

They may all have been massive hits in the States, but the first Doors album never charted in the UK. Neither did the second one (Strange Days). Only Waiting for the Sun (#16) and Morrison Hotel (#12) ever made the top 20.

And Hello I Love You was their only ever top 20 single.

So commercially they were pretty insignificant in British rock history.

Having said that I do like them though, and do own most of these "flops"...

I am also a fan of the Doors and I know almost nothing about music (popular or otherwise). I even quite liked The Soft Parade album that seems to be universally slated even by most Doors fans.
Also the 2 albums that they recorded after Jim Morrison's death were both pretty snazzy in their own way.

erm.... I don't really know where I was going with this post. Oh well, nevermind....
