I’m no finance wizard but these figures posted on Sky Sports just now look all wrong. Have Palace only spent £10m? I also thought we’d got more fees in than £50m, that implies all our other sales other than White were free transfers? Help!

They’re all undisclosed fees so they won’t know. In fact White was undisclosed too but everyone says it was £50m

As it stands, very disappointed. EIGHT YEARS and not one prolific striker apart from those getting old or sicknotes.

Things might change: Loan Striker - Positive
Biss transfer request at Xmas due to lack of ambition - Negative

Well we turned a 16 year old we picked up for virtually nothing into a PL striker and a regular international. Last week we gave another 16 year old striker their full debut, and we’ve signed one striker in our 4/5 years in the PL who has scored 20 goals in just over 2 seasons and another who scored 25. We also coached out of an ex England player his best PL season for goals and appearances in 7 years. And ha! We’ve just identified a striker who is going straight into the Stoke first team.

But yes. Locadia didn’t work out.

Who is the 16 year old we turned into a PL striker?

Can't be Connolly as he's no where near PL standard.

Maupay is handy but he should be a complementary striker, not the guy to be leading the front line.

Murray is the standout but he was part of the club from a time many years back.

Welbeck has some talent but isn't on the pitch enough and is getting older.

None of these options are pushing us up and away from the bottom quarter of the table.

Unfortunately ambitions of comfortable mid table finishes will require someone a lot more prolific than what we have now to achieve that goal.

A bad run of injuries and we're completely impotent up front.

If we didn’t score for the rest of the season Chailey would find a positive. Any Albion fan would be lying if they weren’t relieved when last season ended and we could finally address the forward options..

Straight down the middle with a five. Can’t be too upset, as we’ve hopefully addressed one of the two real problem positions at LWB, pruned the wage bill and made a number of promising acquisitions to help our long-term stability. Keeping Bissouma is a big win.

But there’s just no getting away from the fact that we’ve failed to address the one position the entire western world knows needs support. Indeed we are now weaker up front than we were at the start of the season. I appreciate how difficult it must be to identify credible targets and then to actually get deals done but it’s almost starting to look like negligence on the part of the club.

And on a purely personal note, I’m really disappointed to see Caicedo out on loan for the season, as I’d really hoped to see him push through. Just the assist at the Cardiff match gave a glimpse of the raw talent there.

Inwards.

Falmer, soon...
A probably delusional 8.

50m for White +
Cucurella +
Clear out +
Decent long term planning with other signings +
Some good loans +
Financial prudence +
Squad is less heavy +

I think we have enough to be comfortable this season and we have finally upgraded our left side. We are a better team in 2021 than we were in 2020.

If we're talking shit strikers,Benteke clearly is in my view. . I imagine Palace can give the first XI assurances we can't. Beyond that, it's just guesswork who is better.

I dont see that Edouard is automatically going to keep Maupay and Welbeck on the bench, but more importantly, our club don't see that. Maupay and Welbeck are our one and two, sign better than them or don't sign anyone. I'm sure we'd be happy to have Edouard as a third choice, but probably not on the wages he would demand, and anyway, the player won't want that.

It’s a bit awkward that Benteke scored more league goals than Maupay last season, no?

Out forwards/strikers don’t play just one position, signing Edouard would not mean he’s automatically first, second or third choice, you’d likely find most games where all 3 started together. For the price Palace have paid for him personally I’d have liked to see him join us, if money is the issue don’t sign Mwepu for a position that we’re heavily stocked.

5 goals in 42 Premier League appearances, and 6 appearances with zero goals for ROI.
That’s most unlike you to exaggerate the truth to charge your narrative.

2 out of 10.

Madness to loan out all of Andone, Zeqiri, and Sima. Madness to sell Tau with those 3 loans happening.

It'll go down to 1 out of 10 if Locadia gets sold.
I would shift the score from 2 to 5 if Locadia is sold.... waste of space who is probably going to block a wages slot plus will never score a PL goal unless he gets a clearance fly off his arsse into the top corner.

We have sold White for a good price, and we’ve bought some good prospects in.

We haven’t addressed our striker situation (again) with the failure of our previous attempts to fix this being shown by them all going out on loan or being sold. We’ve spent two years chasing a bloke who clearly isn’t that bothered about being here, or he’d be here, and missed out on Edouard who I fear will now do a job for our rivals up the road.

On the whole, I’m happy with the business completed, but given the length of time we’d been after Nunez, we should have had everything lined up and ready to go for the first day of the transfer window. The fact that another window has slipped by suggests weaknesses in our recruitment process, and we don’t seem to be learning from our mistakes. The lack of cover for the forward positions remains (yet again) my only real concern.

I think we've messed up with the White money.by buying in Mwepu when we did. Seems as if we were looking to replace Bissouma early in the window when we didn't have a clear interested party showing intent. From what I've seen of Mwepu he is nothing like a defensive midfielder. I'm sure he'll adapt but at Burnley he was a rabbit in the headlights.
The other factor that stung us was the release clause on Cucurella meaning that we had to find the £15m upfront for him. Suddenly from a position of strength we are scrabbling around and not able to finance the type of striker than would make a difference. So, we then went in for Sima who is a lower cost risk but not ready to start.
We are at risk now of an injury or two of severely derailing our season although keeping Bissouma is a plus. However, he are over stocked with midfielders and we'll be hacking off at least one or them with a lack of game time.
To loan out Caicedo last minute to a poor Belgium team is a shambles in my opinion. The lad was just getting to grips with the English language, and we now send him abroad. This was a player that we beat Man United to. What must he be thinking?

5 goals.

Anyway, when it comes to Connolly the most absurd exaggeration is the repeated words that he will never turn into something because he has not scored a bunch more goals yet in his short career as a senior footballer. It is absurd statements and there are numerous examples showing that even if you've not made it at 21, you might make it later.

Anyone think Locadia may be named in.the 25?

I know I’m a lone voice in the wilderness here but if he got his head right and down I think he could play a part this season.

I’m going off line shortly for a while as I don’t like abuse

Maupay - 5 7
Mac Allister - 5 9
Trossard - 5 7
Connolly - 5 9
Welbeck - 6 0

When Welbeck is fit and playing we look much better up forward.

Without him and we're too one dimensional up forward as DW is the one striker who gives us something a bit different.

Boggles my mind that we sign Sima and loan him out straight away.

First time in a new country and we send him out on loan without having built up any relationships within our club and a long way from our support network.

Why we wouldn't bring him in and have him around the club and playing in the 23's at least until the next window I can't fathom.

Brighton fans June 2021 "Jahanbakhsh, Locadia, Andone, Zequiri and Tau (zero goals, barely any game time) just aren't good enough - we need to get better strikers"

Brighton fans August 2021 "Jahanbaksh, Locadia, Andone, Sima and Tau (zero goals, barely any game time) are gone - this is a disaster"

Brighton fans June 2021: "Spending 10 to 15 million on the best striker in the Championship/second tier European leagues like Maupay, Jahanbakhsh, Locadia or Andone is a failed strategy"

Brighton fans August 2021: "We really should have taken a punt and spent 10 to 15 million on the best striker in the Championship or a second tier European league"

Brighton fans all the time "We really should spend 40 million and 120k a week on a guaranteed 20 goal a season striker"

Fans of Newcastle (Joelinton) West Ham (Haller) Chelsea (Werner) - "Yeah right"
