I think in those circumstances most people would remember who the player was ................................

Not quite sure what you mean by that fella. It was just something that I came across on youtube. 3 guys talking via zoom. I just skipped through it and came across the discussion about Lamptey. It wasnt some high level production and they called each other by their first names. It was only later that I realised who it was. Like I said, im pretty sure he posts on here with another name but hasnt backed his views up on any of the lamptey discussions.

A five.

Some good additions, some good movements out with sales, loans, etc but the lack of a striker for the here and now (rather than one for the future) is a massive disappointment.

20 mins to go for the score to move upwards…

I wonder how Potter and Ashworth felt, when Maupay looked as if his shoulder was badly injured, with our lack of progress on the striker recruitment? At the time it was stated that he could be out for days or weeks.
Is Potter a Guardiola wannabe, quite happy to play with a false 9?
It's a bloody risky option, that's for sure. It doesn't feel as if we've made any progress to me.

Seems we’ve kept Bissouma and haven’t let Richards, Caicedo or Roberts go out on loan. Those at least are positives from today.

Sorry - mis-read/skipped part of your post - thought it was through a personal contact with said ex-player. Mea culpa.

Still missing a quality striker, therefore it’s a poor transfer window. Enough with the excuses, we need a striker and we’ve fallen short again.
I really don’t understand the logic of thinking we have enough to progress as a team.

We have enough to, and will, progress. Maybe just not as much as you'd like.

You can’t honestly think that?
Last year was proof that we haven’t enough fire power and nothing has changed.
It’s such a high risk approach that we’re taking with lack of depth and quality!

Feels like a 5. It not bad but it's not particularly good either to have added so few goals.

Still feels like we are massively oversubscribed in the middle of midfield (Gross Bissouma Richards Caceido Mwepu Alzate Macallister Moder) which means we'll probably still see Potter’s random team selections for the foreseeable but at least Bissouma is still there.

Out of interest, why do you automatically assume Edouard couldn’t replace Maupay but definitely replaces Benteke?

If we're talking shit strikers,Benteke clearly is in my view. . I imagine Palace can give the first XI assurances we can't. Beyond that, it's just guesswork who is better.

I dont see that Edouard is automatically going to keep Maupay and Welbeck on the bench, but more importantly, our club don't see that. Maupay and Welbeck are our one and two, sign better than them or don't sign anyone. I'm sure we'd be happy to have Edouard as a third choice, but probably not on the wages he would demand, and anyway, the player won't want that.

Yes. Last year we finished well clear of relegation. All our young players are a year more savvy.. We've offloaded most of what needed to be offloaded and got in some good incoming players.
Young players from Poland and South America coming through with experience under their belts, more young attacking players coming in or stepping up from our youth teams after a loan ................. there's fire power there, just not labelled 'striker'. No, we won't win the league - we're not dropping out of it either.

Edit. 11 o'clock - and we've still got Bissouma.

We all said that last year  He’s average 8-10 goals if your lucky. Definitely won’t get a goal out of nothing like a Danny Ings.

I'd love an Ings. But he chose Villa. Anyway, Ings scored 11 in his first premier league season at age 22, and Maupay scored 10 in his first premier league season at age 23. Ings was 27 when he scored his 22 in a season, back to 12 last year.

He improved with age and experience. I am banking on Maupay doing the same. There's no 'definite' about anything with Maupay now based on what he's done so far, he's still near the start of his top flight career.
