£20 a month I think, with free landline calls to other virgins or something.

I don't really do bills.

BT £12.95. Despite being in the sticks, I am about a mile from the exchange. There is fibre to the cabinet, which is about 200 yards from the house.

I'm paying seven pounds fifty pee for o2 BB.

Speed depends on :
1. distance from exchange
2. shite wiring in your house
3. type of cable between exchange and premises (copper good, ali no so good)
4. contention ratio (how many other uses are sharing the DSLAM usage)

When I first went online I was getting 1200 baud down and 75 baud up with Prestel

Broadband is rubbish unless you live in a major city. Paying for up to 8mb - but lucky to get 1mb these days, down from 3mb a couple of years ago.

Tried to download a programme I had missed on iTunes the other day - programme length 1 hour - download time 1 hour 43 minutes!

9088 and 710. On wireless too, I'm well-chuffed. With TalkTalk, a few tedious teething problems to start with but they're fast, man.

£20 with unlimited free landline calls from the 'phone.

£10 pm on o2 (up to 20Mb)

Down 12256 Kbps
Up 1074 Kbps

Nowhere near the max download speed, but still better than I used to get on Virgin 10Mb at £25 pm!

For the time being, you could download the iPlayer Downloader (http://po-ru.com/files/ipdl.exe) for Windows, or iPlayer Grabber (http://www.fader.co.uk/file.axd?file=2008%2f11%2fiPlayer+Grabber.zip) for Mac - connect your iPod or take them home on a memory stick for later?

Thanks for the suggestion, but it was just a case last night of trying to watch Top Gear via the BBC iPlayer on my PS3. I've not got the facility at work to download onto memory sticks etc, but I shouldn't NEED to anyway if Virgin Media were providing the service they're SUPPOSED to.
