Got off the train at Preston Park from London. Walking out I heard a couple of stewards telling another bloke the game was called. Wish they had stewards on the station so I could have stayed on the train into Brighton.

Got to the Long man in Patcham, supping on my "pre match pint" when copped the news on Sky Sports. f***ing BONEHEAD of a ref, a 2.30 inspection for an evening kickoff, declaring it all ok over 5 hours in advance.

Great the way all the stations were announcing it on the way home. Someone leaving Three Bridges at 7:30 wasn't going to see much of the first half.

I never usually go in there, but quite handy for the station to get back to London. Told a few in there, and we then saw it on Sky Sports News.

Had awful trouble convincing some other people out side the game was off.

Got off at Preston Park from Haywards Heath, and saw a couple of Brighton fans getting on the train going to Brighton so thought "thats a bit odd". We then heard a steward tell someone else "games cancelled mate" and realised that he wasn't making it up (or scare-mongering). Proceeded to head to The Station for a couple of consolation pints. Also laughed a lot at the following conversation:

Gillingham Fan: "I think this is our best away result of the season"
Brighton Fan: "It's one of our better home ones!"

Nice to see people taking it well!

Granted, but does that mean they're incapable of adding the caveat that it wasn't absolutely 100% so to check right up 'til the moment you had to leave? There was NO indication on the website that there was ANY doubt, it's not a tremendous stretch for them to add their own warning to his comments is it? They have their own people at the stadium, I don't.

If he'd said 'The games definitely on, squax dob millibib thung, I'm a dwarf Abyssinian aquatic mongrel', would they just have parroted that?

I had a 50 mile drive to Lewes, caught the train into Brighton, grabbed a bite to eat in Subway and was about to make my way to Withdean when I heard. So back on the train to Lewes and drive back home. Great fun! If the ref had inspected the pitch a around 4ish I could have saved all that wasted time, effort and fuel.

Only drove from ditchling but got to Mill Hill, where there was no cars so drove to the stadium where we found out it was off, very annoying that it was only called off less than an hour before kick off after they said it was on after a pitch inspection. But oh well went to the pub and kept warm instead.

got to the club at 5.10 to sign in for work at the ground and it wasnt that bad!!!! within 30 mins the fog had come down and the temprature dropped about 5 degrees we could see the running track getting worse in front of our eyes. by 6.00pm we could pretty much see it wasn't going ahead as that last hour killed the chances off (totally the opposite of the weather forecast)

Sorry, but you don't need a weather forcast to tell you that its going to get colder and colder as the sun sets and the evening draws in - specially with how its been for over a week now. The ref f***ed up, simple as.

Sat in the Brewery Tap when the news came up on SKY about 6pm. Dover had slready seen the Gillingham bus go by towards Withdean, so I'm thinking it's a VERY late decision.

Couple of stewards came in, one gave me an instant-collectors-item programme, they reckoned the pitch was playable tho the covers hadn't been down, but the running track was the problem. Like a skating rink even after the grit and shit had been put down.

Certainly don't seem quite as cold here in BN1 as on previouis nights, but evey night, including this one, the frost gets more stupidly impressive. All the cars caked in it already, and looks like it's been snowing, frost is so thick.

Probably best all round to call it off. Shit happens aye?

I heard that the stands were the problem, not the running track. Makes sense when you think about those long metal-edged steps that run up and down the open South and East stands. One person slipping, could take about 50 people out!

I checked the internet just before I left home at 5.30, so I was probably getting on for half way down when the game was called off. I was however listening to the Foo Fighters on Minidisc, rather than the radio, and the game being called off wasn't mentioned in any of the travel reports that occasionally interjected so I didn't find out 'til I got to Mill Road...



So I drove home, got some Chow Mein from Mings, cracked open a cold one and watched Die Another Day, which I hadn't seen before and wasn't very good.

Train Worthing to Brighton, then train to Preston Park, 10 min walk, arrived at the Sportsman for a few beers and thenheard the news. NOT Happy.

So it was train back to Worthing, pub and a late meal at Mahan Restaurant.

Was gutted as had not seen a game for a few months.
