Got all my best thermal skiing gear on and was just watching a bit of Sky Sports News before leaving the house when I saw it was off. Better get changed again before I overheat!
Had just got back to a dark flat. Power cut! bollocks! fed the cat in the dark opened a can, Thought to myself mite as well leave now. Just about to leave and the power came back on. One sec I'll just boot the puter and check NSC. Rest is history.
I spent the afternoon in Brighton, but had left my ticket (and Roz) at home.
I heard the news of the postponement (from an SMS from the Club) just as I walked in through the front door of Bracknell Towers and spied the roaring fire and warm slippers that I had prepared earlier.
Junction of Withdean Road and Wayland Avenue to find one other bloke staring down at a ground without the floodlights on and no people asking the question when did it get called off. Did cross my mind walking up from central Hove how slippy the pavements were and should have twigged by the lack of stewards and nobody else walking around.
Sat in the Brewery Tap when the news came up on SKY about 6pm. Dover had slready seen the Gillingham bus go by towards Withdean, so I'm thinking it's a VERY late decision.
Couple of stewards came in, one gave me an instant-collectors-item programme, they reckoned the pitch was playable tho the covers hadn't been down, but the running track was the problem. Like a skating rink even after the grit and shit had been put down.
Certainly don't seem quite as cold here in BN1 as on previouis nights, but evey night, including this one, the frost gets more stupidly impressive. All the cars caked in it already, and looks like it's been snowing, frost is so thick.
Probably best all round to call it off. Shit happens aye?
