You just take this whole forum business a bit too personally.

If Simster calls me a prick (which I'm pretty sure he has done over the ridiculous number of my post count), he is calling my online typing version of myself a prick, we've never met, I wouldn't take the insult to heart, even if it ended up in a 'virtual to do' - but that's all it is.

Loads of people have taken more stick and flak than you have. Look at the stick Stat Brother takes whom I do know and nowhere near is deserving of some of the things said on here, but that's all it is - on here, he isn't Stat Brother outside.

You seem okay most of the time, you just seem to be very sensitive for what is pretty much an anonymous forum where it is very easy to get wound up. And you do seem to get wound up on not very much tbh with you.

Although you are a prick.

I'm not comfortable with this thread.
I don't have a problem with vagabond or his posts and I don't have a problem with Guinness boys modding and his posts are also always good.
I felt this same sadness with tony stark and captain America a few years ago.
It would be a Shame after the team finishing so positively we have this sort of thing going on here.

[emoji106] Thank you. Team Iron Man all the way. Need to have checks and balances.

In summary, everything that needs to be said, has now been said.
Some bits that people agree with, some they don't.

I feel the same as A Pint of of Ale and a Burger, I'm not all that comfortable with this thread.
We have plenty of Albion things to be cheerful about without generating all this negativity which is doing no one any good.

Time to bury the hatchet on both sides and move on, life's too short.
If you can't do that, just use the ignore button.

I can honestly say that when I saw the title of this thread and that there were 130 replies (when I opened it!), I was very excited. I made myself some lunch and settled in for some reading and bravo to all involved. Magnificent thread to read.

For my two pennies worth, I don't know either character in this tale. But both add a lot to this forum, as does pretty much everyone. It would be nothing if everyone agreed all the time and although I find bouncing old threads out of relevant context is incredibly annoying and childish - it is quite funny in a "I'm going to pat myself on the back, and get repeatedly flogged for it" kind of way.

Carry on all round, I say - but remember it ends when you navigate away from the site.

15 pages in (on my settings) and frankly I'm STILL none the wiser how Guinness Boy became a mod. (Especially as he once confessed to me that the supposed photographs of Bozza and the Welsh male voice choir at a Travel Lodge on the outskirts of Aberystwyth don't actually exist).

I can only assume it's because he's a half-decent moderator?

That was only supposed to be between me, you and the rest of us at the Annual Gerbil Felching Festival

Being serious for one post, the "should moderators be able to post like everyone else?" question is one that we ask ourselves periodically, and it's difficult.

At times, NSC can be home to some pretty robust discussions and these discussions are often the most fun ones. Should moderators be excluded from those, because of their status? It feels a bit unfair to have to miss out on a subject you hold strong views on.

The problem comes in that those involved in these discussions often hold grudges that linger on for weeks, months or even years and niggles continue to flair up between these keyboard combatants.

How we try to balance this, is that when a moderator does have "history" with an NSCer they sit out of moderating decisions involving that person so their personal views don't cloud trying to make an impartial decision.

We still get it wrong of course and, as a group, we tell a mod if they've gone too far. I've even banned myself for stepping over the line before.

I think a lot of posters forget that moderators are fans of the club too and, therefore, entitled to their opinions. In effect, they should be able to post on NSC as fans, not as moderators. At the same time, they should be able to deal with situations that arise that need sorting out under their 'moderator responsibilities'.

I'm not entirely sure of the 'beef' that's brought this to light, but if it is two people arguing/debating over players or managers, then it shouldn't matter if one is a moderator or not. That particular role – as I understand it (and having been admin of FB groups) is to be objective and impartial on conversations that are veering close to the line of breaking any 'rules' the group or forum has.

I know GB in real life and he's a good bloke. We might differ on opinions on footballing matters, but that's no different to other posters I know who AREN'T moderators.

It strikes me that it's all being taken a bit too seriously (starting threads about how someone became a mod) because, in reality, it's not really reality. I guess the OP and GB don't know each other in real life – who knows, they might get on if they did – but not everyone can like everyone else. There are people I don't like and I'm sure there are plenty who don't like me. Do I mind? Not really – life's too short for all that. Just ignore it and move on, FFS!

That's technically correct. It was the Premier Inn allegedly!

Over a quarter of a century NSC has always had a natural ebb and flow in terms of content, with ever-evolving rules and moderation.

But I can't help thinking that's it headed down a bad path over the past 18 months or so, with some regular (too regular) posters needlessly sniping at each other (without any wit or intelligence), reposting months-old posts or bouncing old threads to get one-up on others etc etc.

It's utterly tedious behaviour which is pushing users away (certainly some of my old friends).

Bring back flippancy and fun!

Practical suggestion: Try a 10-post-a-day limit for a while. It will stop the dullards commenting on every thread (they know who they are), and make users think about what they post.

I didn't come here for a lecture in communism.

When did NSC become a place where people

1. Cannot accept criticism of their view? (Clue don't post on a message board if you don't like dissent)
2. Respond with petty and childish abuse? (Clue its boring for everyone else)
3. Carry on going feuds onto other threads? (Clue its really boring for everyone else)
4. Ruin threads for others by reducing them to a two person slanging match? (We just don't care about your argument)
5. Recycle the same points by shoehorning them into other threads? (Potter is great or not, argue it where appropriate and in a constructive way, not with hourly in/out polls)
6. Pedantry to discredit others (You have made a great point there but I am going to discredit it by concentrating on the comma you missed because I am a smug ****)

I have had disagreements with Guinness Boy, Stat, THPP, The Clamp and god knows how many others on a variety of things from Potter to Cycle lanes and sometimes they were even right :lolol:. It's a discussion board and differing viewpoints, constructively offered and backed up with info is what makes NSC worth visiting in the first place. I don't expect everyone to agree with everything I think or say, and I like batting things to and fro and several times I have come to a completely different view as a result, isn't that what being a grown up is all about?

What I think we are seeing though is an increasing amount of discussions where the problems outlined above are surfacing, from either trolls, Palace twats or downright ignorant people and I do think this is tarnishing the NSC experience. Not sure what the answer is maybe stricter moderation but even that will be open to interpretation?

I've read a lot in the archive and would say "2003 or earlier".

To be fair Vagabond, none of them are perfect, but I think we all agree that they do tend to get most things right.

And to prove the point, I happen to know Guinness Boy isn't the only mod who considers you a self-important tedious bell-end. They nearly all do.

To be fair to Vagabound, he has been pretty correct with what he’s said re Potter and the Albion and most could see it too. It’s just how he’s made that point that’s wound many up! But yes, let’s just all be friends and enjoy beating Man City eh? Apart from Bladders he’s a cock **** **** head, and will forever be my immortal EMENY.

No way! I've always found Captain America a pompous, sanctimonious, insufferable bore. I can't be the only one that wanted to punch the screen when he was able to call and control Thor's hammer?! What a lot of bullshit that was!

Apologies if this tangent has hindered anyone's enjoyment of the binfest.
