Excuse my ignorance but what announcement?

Ah, I've found it now, this safe standing issue everyone seems to be getting there knickers in twist about.

Storm in a teacup.

Its gives fans cheaper tickets and clubs bigger profits.
No it doesn't, the club can charge exactly the same price if they want to.

Increases capacity.
Well the capacity is limited by the licence granted by the local authority. Any changes to the capacity would be considered as 'change of use' and require a planning application, which might not result in a successful application, particularly as the trains can't cope with the crowds for the capacity as it already stands. I'd wager permission would only be granted on the basis of the capacity remaining exactly as it stands already.

Stops conflicts with stewards.
Really, how? If anything it makes little or no difference to the job they have to do, which is all about ensuring your comfort and safety. It just creates a few different problems for them to deal with.

Creates a fantastic atmosphere.
Only if the people standing decide to sing, and there will be plenty of people who might want to stand but not be bothered about joining in a song or too.

There are NO reasons not to support this.

Well, I suspect when you present the project cost to Tony Bloom and ask him to pay for it he might just tell you why he's not going to.........

Lets be honest if the club had there way everyone who is in the north or cheaper parts of the ground wouldnt be welcomed, Only families and corporate are the future ,they view us as potential trouble makers ,its all about money now and before anyone says about the family stand being cheaper thats marketing for the future . Barbers comments reinforce this, It seems were not grown up enough to stand up without causing trouble, i hate being constantly watched by multiple cameras or stared at by stewards just because im supporting my team, its getting less enjoyable going to games now .

glasfryn and mayfair seagull I agree with all you comments. The control the club has over us all is a problem- especially the approach of stewards at the Amex. Why isn't it possible to clap/ watch the players go down the tunnel at the end of the match without a steward ushering you away like some naughty school boy. I mean we pay top dollar to be there.

The closure of the ticket exchange needs a mention here now aswell:censored:

exactly. I do not feel one little bit connected with these present owners. I get on well with Richard Hebbard and Paul C and dodge, but the rest of them...shame harty and I are not doing the radio anymore....we could fill up a whole show with this question.

Indeed. There has to be a middle way between the need for the club to be commercially aware (to stop being a cottage industry where everybody knows everybody else), and being something geared to suck every single penny out of its customers knowing that, unlike with supermarkets, we're not going to go off and support somebody else. (Because of course most of us aren't 'customers' to be won and kept in the business sense, we're fans who are here regardless).

That's where they have got you by the short and curlies and they know it. No one is obliged to spend a single penny once inside the ground though or on any merchandise.

Really, you think that the club are doing this specifically to target you personally and not because it's been proven to assist crowd control in general. CCTV is present in every shop, bus, train, town centre and many other public spaces to reduce criminality, be that against property or people. If you have a real problem with that then I have to question why, because it has been well documented that when CCTV is installed, the occurence of criminality dramatically reduces.

Barbers comments do not reinforce that one bit. Did you read Barbers reposnse and by that I mean did you read the words and understand what they mean, or did you pick out the four words you understood in the whole letter and then re-arrange them in a simplistic, childlike statement that fits with your views?

How out of touch are you? Absolutely shocking. The safe standing campaign is building nicely. There will be safe standing in this country before too long, but perhaps that worries you? if so, I'd love to know why?

Just because the cameras are there it dosent stop crime, its just away of intruding in peoples lifes, policeman on the street stop crime not cameras. We are the most watched society in the world why? crime is not that bad in the uk ,When i walk to the game im watched ,if i get the bus im watched cameras on every junction along lewes road, how much does all this cost?DO YOU REALLY FEEL SO UNSAFE . M e im happy to walk about without being watched constantly its called freedoom something we have less and less of nowadays. So sorry i upset you and made you waste minutes of your day replying to my post kind regards ..

I'm not suggesting crime is reduced, but the ability to gather evidence and prosecute criminals successfully is massively improved when it's possible to present irrefutable evidence in Court, in the form of CCTV footage.

That also allows Police Officers to spend MORE time on the street, and not having to summons them as witnesses in a Court of Law, which is a massive drain on Police time and resources.

If you want increased Police presence inside the ground, instead of CCTV, then the club have to pay for that directly, at considerably higher cost than employing their own stewards. This also means there are less Police available to tackle crime in the rest of the City.

Neither did previous generations have to contend with suicide bombers on the London Underground, shoplifters ( which isn't a victimless crime as some might suggest ), muggings, knife related gang crime, the increasing use of firearms in robberies, vehicle crime, internet grooming of children, drug smuggling, ( I can go on but I think I've made my point )............

I'm starting to feel more disconnected but mainly from a price point of view. If ST's go up next year, I'll probably have to give mine up as its boarder line now. Also match by match are so expensive, they are pricing me out on that one too.

I really don't care about cameras but I'm with you on the safe standing issue. It really should be brought it. I see absolutley no reason why it shouldn't.

You need to relax more! You paint a picture that big brother is monitoring your every activity. Just get on with you life. The only ones that need to worry are those that commit the crimes.
