I had to take our LD 4K all singing and all dancing 45in one back because when you turned it off it didnt have a tiny white dot that slowly disappeared.....

Ours came with a little bottle of tippex, it was an optional extra in the small print.

You are approximately the same distance as i am from my tv.....65 i definitely think would be overkill...hmm..its tricky isn’t it i can see why you are dithering as said i am more than happy with the 50inch....have you tried creating the size of each tv (sheets of paper sellotaped together and hung)...to see what impact each would give.....got to be worth it considering the outlay.
As regards to brand i have been more than happy with picture and controls on my hisense

PS one thing i would add is that immediate impact of size does dissipate after a month ...so allow for that in your thinking..but also a tv looks good when switched on but not so brilliant when off....does that matter to you?

We've just constructed the 55" size out of cardboard. It just feels too big. Going to go 49".

Personally I would never encourage kids to get into gaming or any type of computer games . No game boys or x boxes or any of the other stuff they sell . Absolutely refused to go down that route. There’s lots of evidence that children that spend lots of time glued to a screen it effects their development in lots of other ways . If kids want to play which they should , it should be mainly sports and board games with other people not locked in their bedroom .

Same way . I would never take kids to a McDonald’s or kfc . Just not a good example to show . Plenty of decent restaurants.

You won't. Trust me. I have a 55in and the room is only 3.5m wide so I'm probably 2.5m away from it. Don't think I went big enough. If I was in the market for a new telly I would be looking at 65in at a minimum.

I wonder if how the TV is positioned makes a difference. Ours isn't, and won't be, flat against a wall, but diagonally across the corner of the room. I think if we had it flat against a wall, a larger screen size would feel less imposing.

In my opinion that’s an important point....even though mine is flat against a wall....it’s a tricky decision with perhaps no one perfect answer...when you have to weigh up impact on room...viewing experience etc

I take it you are going the Samsung route?

Sony. For some reason I've always had Sony TVs and I've always been happy with them.

I need to buy a new TV so my lad can have a TV (our current TV) in his room for gaming.

I just can't decide how much bigger to go than the 40" we currently have, which I appreciate is quite small by modern standards.

I know that anything bigger will, initially at least, feel humongous in comparison and I'm also aware of the "chav factor" that can come with having a massive TV.

So, I think I'm torn between 49/50" and 55". In most cases the jump in sizes of the same model is negligible additional cost which is why I'm being drawn to the 55", but I do wonder if it will be just TOO BIG.

40" has an area of 684 square inches
50" has an area of 1068 square inches (56% bigger)
55" has an area of 1293 square inches (89% bigger)

How big is yours and would you go BIGGER if you had the chance?

55 is a decent size, to much bigger and it can effect viewing live stuff like the footie, if you're sat too near (which you often are at home vis a vis the pub).

Just so happens I'm planning in the sales to try and bag a new TV and also decided 55 is about right to upgrade from my current 43 inch. Yesterday I was hanging about in the local Currys, waiting to pick up sons Christmas Nintendo switch stuff, so was looking at a load of the TVs.... The OLEDs are stunning for picture quality/depth but they're expensive and I read they fade in time like the old plasma's did, the Samsung QLED decent definition but very bright and viewing angle not so good from the side if you're not directly in front of it.

The one set that really stood out was an LG Nanocell, I couldn't get away from it! Almost the amazing depth but of the OLED (nearest I've seen to it) and incredible definition with natural colours, I also liked the price more, it was £699 (it's £799 in Argos and AO.com).

I don't know much about TVs generally, purely a sight test, watched the standard LG HD video in it, some sport (cricket) and some normal TV and pound for pound it was exceptional picture quality for that price, better than many higher priced options.

Just FYI if you happen to see one, take a look, picture quality is really very good.

Then 2 weeks later you'll be disappointed you didn't buy the next size up as opposed to settling for this 'matchbox'.

I was told by a TV repair man that most of the internal workings and chasis are made by the same company for different brand names similar to a Skoda having many VW parts.ect ect.

Bought a 47" for the living room three years ago , should have gone for a slightly bigger one . What ever you decide though , i would go with LG , cant beat their quality .

We've been against having more than one TV in the house, but he's now at an age where most of his friends, who he plays with online, seem to and it means there'll be no contention for that one TV when he wants to play and I have something (football, probably) to watch.

So the options were to buy him a TV for his room and keep what he have downstairs, or upgrade the living room TV.
