I think your ‘without the mask’ line is interesting.. I think I have been guilty of always sort of giving the US the benefit of the doubt but it’s as if Trump has lifted the veil and now it’s clear just how much they have damaged the world (Russia being no less culpable of course)
As they are our "allies", we are propagandised daily by our media to normalise or excuse US hegemony/proxy wars/military intervention as being normal or just par for the course.

Hello to anyone on this thread who will be boycotting America.

I take it you're going back to Nokia 3510's and using Linux from now on? Nokia and Linux originate from Finland, so you're in the clear.

The market will soon be flooded with second hand iPhone's, Mac's and Samsung's.

With respect, you're missing the point.
I'm not going to get rid of my macbook or iphone but, going forward, I am going to look for non-American products. Hence I cancelled my Prime that was due to renew next week.
Oh, and Samsung is Korean.

The hardware that I’ve bought I will keep. They’ve had their money off me from that, nothing I can do about it. Both my Mac and Windows machines had Linux installed on them last night though.

From my experience during testing I can confirm that Ubuntu is still the only distribution that delivers a fairly straightforward Windows equivalent out the box.

I’ve gone for Manjaro Linux, but I’m comfortable messing about with downloading bits, terminal commands and editing config files until everything works how I want it.

I strongly recommend not straying from Ubuntu if you’re considering moving, aren’t techie and want/expect things to largely just work straight after install. Do back everything up before you start too.

Mobile phone Operating Systems are tougher. There’s mainly iOS, Android, or OS’s that are effectively reskinned versions of Android. There’s a couple of other efforts out there, but neither seem “app rich” or particularly widely supported. I may stick with what I have until it dies, then see what’s available at that point.

It's obviously impossible to 'boycott America' totally as their products and services are all-pervasive. But where there are good alternatives, sure, why not? I've always used Amazon for convenience for instance, but in reality there are loads of alternative suppliers for essentially the same goods. No one is going to throw devices away that they've already paid for for obvious reasons. But do I really need to buy a new iPad this year simply because I usually upgrade every 2 years? No, there's no reason at all. Do I really need to use Starbucks, as I do out of habit and familiarity, when there are so many alternatives? No. Plenty of alternatives to McDonalds and Burgerking if I want some fast food at a service station. Small changes but over a year, it mounts up.

Sorry! I've spent about £18,000 with Amazon in the past 7 years according to my bank statement - so I wont be cutting off my nose to spite my face. Ludicrously sensible method to consider purchasing just about anything! Let us all know if you find anything superior, especially if it's British.

Think there's a lot of virtue signalling going on.

Be interesting to see how this thread looks in a years time, and if people have managed to boycott fully.

Once again for the hard of thinking :dunce:

All it takes is a little bit of effort from anyone who disagrees with what Trump is doing to reduce the amount of American stuff they buy, in order to make a fairly significant impact overall. Of course, if you don't disagree with him, then as people above have posted, don't bother.

That is about as simple as I can make it

You would be surprised how much of the UK commercial / semi commercial / mixed use buildings are owned or part owned by US Private Equity firms / funds.

Quite a sizeable chunk of UK care facilities are also us owned.

I see these complex corporate structures daily at work, it’s a alarming how uncle Sam’s tentacles are embedded severely within UK infrastructure much like the Chinese and UAE

I don’t understand why you’d crow, on this thread especially, about occupying the moral low ground? Of course alternatives exist, if you care or have the wit to venture beyond what Planet Besos serves you. However, I do understand many people don’t have the mental agility to do this, which may or may not include you? Who knows.
