Really hope it stays but I'd be worried.

Entain, the company that own Coral (and Ladbrokes who have just shut Crayford) who own the track in Hove, have got some financial troubles principally caused by major regulatory fines they've received in recent times. They've just had another Chief Exec leave after only 6 months and look to be a bit of a mess.

This would make me worry about Hove's future when as other contributors have pointed out, crowds are down on what they used to be and the potential value of the land is so high.

Other revenue streams from betting (media rights for pictures principally) are likely worth more than you think but whether that's enough we shall see.

Greyhound racing - unlike horseracing - does not benefit from a statutory levy which also doesn't help.

Why would anyone want it to? Where would you prefer essential house building to go, than empty brownfield sites?
More Londoners buying up apartments around Hove Park where roads and resources are already at breaking point. great.

It's not a house though is it. And there are already a lot of flats going up. 560+ just in the Moda, (and feel free to rent one at £2k+ a month) with loads of others being built close by

As a (very) local resident to that site I feel qualified to comment on the level of pollution. Oh and Sackville Road is basically impassable at the moment.

None of these developments are to meet the needs of local people. They are to attract well off outsiders, presumably on London salaries. The word "luxury" is liberally sprinkled on the marketing material.

What we actually need in this city are starter homes. Modest, well built, little garden, a way to get started on the ladder if you live and work locally. Best example I can give is Downs Park where I used to live, that's a great area to get yourself started. But young families are deserting the city and schools are reducing the number of classes. Alarm bells should be ringing, but we keep building the properties that developers want to build and not the ones that meet the needs of people from the area

Used to go fairly regularly when the in-laws were still alive but they both passed in the last few years, so have only been back twice recently - and that was to give blood at sessions on the ground floor.

As for the Afghan races, saw a few of those and they were very entertaining. The dogs' long flowing locks looked magnificent as they ran around! 😂

Used to be my favourite thing to do on Boxing Day: Hove Dogs morning meeting (first race 10:30), skip the last race and stroll down the hill for the 12:30 kick off at the Goldstone
