Deepest, darkest Sussex
It would be nice if this thread served as an example as to why people shouldn’t automatically jump to conclusions about who by and why atrocities like are carried out (I would imagine several of the posters on the first 5 pages of this thread won’t see their posts age well), but I doubt it

It’s not just on here, several right wing British politicians are also going to be looking very premature. Not least the MP for Clacton.

The portrait of the perpetrator is confused as best. We may never knew his true motives. Given the nature of this attack and pro-Hamas comments, the waters are very murky, it’s hardly an exoneration of Islamist extremism.

And as I said before, it’s very possible he is/was an asset for a government, see Hal Turner, a federal agent provocateur who went off the deep end.

From what I’ve read so far, the perpetrator seems to be a very confused, radicalised extremist.

There’s a surprise.

An appalling action with tragic consequences for innocent people.

You must be reading different sources to me. From reading this thread it appeared to be

refusing to address the Elephant in the room
Anyone saying what the real issues are gets called a bigot
Islamic attacks are increasing
Allah knows what the world is coming to.............
The number of churches that have 'caught light' in France in recent years is a bit of a clue
Islamic terror is a very specific threat, and one which is a growing problem once again across Europe
Mass, uncontrolled immigration has allowed thousands upon thousands of Muslims into Europe
Sadly, the countries of Western Europe only have themselves to blame for today's abhorrent act
I don't think Sharia law is too far around the corner in the UK

I gave up reading after a couple of pages and skipped forward to the news coming out this morning to actually read some facts about this horrendous situation that I'm sure we'll know more about in time

People are sharing his pro-Hamas Tweets on social media, which seems at odds with the anti Islam rhetoric. Let's just wait and see what the story is.

His anti Saudi views/anger about Germany’s treatment of Saudi exiles, doesn’t preclude a hatred of innocents in the West.

This might seem an odd thing to say and of course I have utmost sympathy for the victims and their families and the community in Magdeburg ....

But I'm amazed there haven't been more "jihadi" (if this is what this is) terror attacks recently. Five years ago it was pretty much every week somewhere in Europe, often dozens being killed in increasingly horrific events.

And the risk factors seem to have gone up, to me not down.

  • The (i'm happy to call it) genocide being carried out by the Israeli government, with minimal pushback from western governments
  • Immigration certainly hasn't reduced in the mean time
  • Mental health and security services have received real terms cuts
  • Governments have generally lurched right in their make up and rhetoric, immigrants have been made to feel more unwelcome

According to many sources, such as the MOD, there have been thousands of plots ranging from embryonic planning through to what they call “goal line saves” in the last year alone.

As I said prior in the thread, the main benefit is they aren’t the smartest bunch and all of their channels used for indoctrination are infiltrated and closely monitored.

When people ask “why is this Telegram group allowed to exist” or “why is this site on the dark web with (intentionally incorrect) bomb making instructions allowed to stay online?” - it’s because they are seized assets which serve as crucial intelligence for defence agencies

Completely unsurprising. Christmas markets can no longer exist in Europe without massive security and occasional mass killings. It's unsustainable for us to keep living like this and pretending it's normal. Anyone saying otherwise and refusing to address the Elephant in the room is a a complete fool and it's time we treat them as such. We need firm, unified political action. f*** your thoughts and prayers.
The elephant in the room apparently being anti-Islam, anti-refugee right wingers like the individual who committed this terrorist attack?

Based on the evidence you could also argue the pro-Hamas attacker. Time will tell and we may never know, especially while they investigate any known associates and so on

There's a video on his social media shortly before the attack blaming Germany for the Islamification of Europe, his manifesto if you will.

He was an AfD supporter who was against refugees and left Saudi Arabia due to becoming atheist.

There’s also comments on social media commending Hamas and their ideology. As I say, we may never know the facts while he is thoroughly investigated

Of course, i'm sure you're right, but that must surely have also been the case 5 ish years ago when the instances were more prevalent and more destructive

Absolutely. Just makes you thankful for the thousands of staff at GCHQ and the work of all the international agencies for doing their best to keep us safe. And it draws into sharp focus the need to maintain and increase defence spending in these dangerous times.

Indeed, and we British folk have a bit of a history of spreading our beliefs around the world, and not very often in a 'good way'.

Absolutely. Just makes you thankful for the thousands of staff at GCHQ and the work of all the international agencies for doing their best to keep us safe. And it draws into sharp focus the need to maintain and increase defence spending in these dangerous times.
Would not need thousands of staff at CCHQ if we could control our borders , and actually only let in people who are entitled to be here

The London suicide bombers were born in Britain so were entitled to be here. The perpetrator of last night’s atrocity was a German citizen and entitled to be there. It’s not that simple.

I would think many countries are thankful to GCHQ for thwarting attacks such is their expertise.
