Horrific accident on M25

I've had to wade through a lot of very unpleasant posts on this thread to try and find out any further details on this.

Some people should be ashamed of themselves, not because they're now from Brighton or possibly Albion fans, but because this terrible accident has cut down some young people with their whole lives ahead of them. How anyone can make light of that, or start making racist capital from it, is quite beyond me.

My deepest condolences to all family and friends of the victims, and also especially the bride and groom, I wonder if that can go ahead. Doesn't seem fair for such a big day to be tarnished like that. Although to be honest, I'd rather my condolences were on another thread.

One we used recently to collect a new car was a complete nutter, including deliberately driving in to the back of a car (slowly) because it wouldn't get out of his way. A very scarey trip.

Could be because they get paid per recovery and it's a flat fee. Some they make good money on, others they don't. A guaranteed way to ensure that there are a load of recovery vehicles being driven in a manner they weren't designed to be.

They get paid a base fee plus mileage.

I don't know any of them.
I know it's sick to try & make light or some sort of political statement about this sort of tragedy.

RIP lads.

Maybe the flat fee applies to local recoveries? (I was repeating what a recovery guy told me recently on his second recovery of my car).

However they get paid, many of them tend to drive like loonies, always rushing to get to another call.

Coming from a self-confessed and habitual drink-driver that is alarming, to say the least.

The sooner you are caught, brought before the courts and banned, the safer all other road users and pedestrians will be.

The sad fact is Bry there's many people who drive while over the limit who dont even realise they are doing it, I'm not talking about on the way home from the pub but people driving to work in the morning after going out the night before. People should be made more aware of how long it takes alcohol to clear your system after a drinking session.

No, it should be simply ZERO tolerance.

End of.

I dont disagree with zero tolerance but it's hard to enforce if people dont understand how long it takes for alcohol to clear your system, I understand it because in my line of work our limits are tighter than drinking and driving but there's a lot of people driving who dont understand how it works.

The problem with setting an absolute zero for tolerance is that the body naturally produces a small amount of alcohol, if you tested a random class of 10 year olds (assuming none of them had been raiding their parents drinks stash) some of them would register a detectable amount of alcohol. Set a realistic limit that equates to roughly one unit of alcohol, then everyone would know where they stood and nobody would lose their licence just because they had had a few swigs of a cough syrup or eaten a tiramisu for dessert.

That's a bit black and white.

It takes - depending on the individual - about one hour for one unit of alcohol to disappear from your bloodstream. One pint of lager or bitter (depending on strength) contains anywhere between 1.6 and 2.8 units. A bottle of wine typically contains about 9 - 9.5 units.

If you have had a bit of a bender the night before, it's not wise to drive in the morning. You may feel fine, and you feel your reactions satisfactory - indeed, there are a number of factors which will determine whether you are over the legal limit for driving or not - but the alcohol will still be in your bloodstream up to twelve hours after your last drink.

However, zero tolerance would not therefore include any medication which is alcohol-based, even if it states that driving is still OK. Some perfumes are also alcohol-based, and would register on a breathalyser.

The point about making people aware of how much you are allowed to drink is a good one. I am 20, have been driving for over 2 years, but I haven't the faintest idea how much alcohol I could drink before I am over the limit. I've never driven after a drink, and I don't intend to, but I bet I have been guilty of the "morning after" syndrome.
don't drink full stop. i'll just have a coke or shandy before a game in the sportsman next season, there's no need to drink.
