nowhere near Burgess Hill
Virgin to Vegas for a week then Hawaii and back via SF.

Maldives were absolute heaven though plenty of watersports to do but not much else without getting on a long boat ride.

I got married last year at the end of May and went to the following places on Honeymoon.

3 nights in Hong Kong
8 nights in Koh Samui Thailand
2 nights in Singapore
Home

This was a good mix of city and beach.
Recommend the Tongsai bay in Koh Samui, this really is an amazing hotel for honeymooners and if you book through trailfinders they normally have some really good deals: Koh Samui - Tongsai Bay Cottages Hotel - Resort Reviews and Photos - TripAdvisor

LA is way overrated, large parts are a complete dump (including Hollywood), it's too big to get around easily, and the smog is noticeably unpleasant. San Diego, an hour or so down the coast is beautiful, lovely weather, nice beaches, plenty to do and see in the vicinity (SeaWorld, trips across the Mexican border, good shopping).

Would love to have seen San Francisco too, but never got the time. I'd still choose it over LA any day.

What about Canada? Some stunning places to see in the Rockies. Not much in the way of beach life, I grant you, but hey, sitting on a beach all day can get dull...

We did a few days in Kuala Lumpur and then 2 1/2 weeks in Borneo, amazing. If you go do your PADI in Sipidan, amazing sharks, baracuda and turtles. Mount Kinabaloo is a bloody hard climb though so don't do it unless you really want to push yourself!

As BoF said Yosemite National Park is amazing - 2 weeks around California, Nevada and Arizona would make a great honeymoon. As Edna said LA isn't up to much but Santa Cruz and Santa Barbara are nice just to the North and are an amazing drive down the coast road from San Francisco.

Most people think Turkey is just beaches but it certainly isn't. Somewhere like Kalkan is fanatsic. White water rafting, trekking, lots of sea trips, masses of history to see... pretty much everything and for 3k you can really stay in the best places and do the best things.

MEXICO is a marvel.
Stayed in Porto del Carmen for our honeymoon (about 50 miles south from Cancun). Loved it, planning to return some time.

Virgin did a flight deal going out to Vegas and then coming back from San Francisco - pretty much the same cost as the return flight to Vegas. On the way we stayed at Vegas (four nights) Death Valley, Yosemite (three nights), Lake tahoe (two), Monterey and then SF for four nights. It was an awesome trip and we booked all the hotels when we were there - much cheaper.

Have to say I thought Mexico was great too.

Depends how flexible the budget is but Rarotonga in the south pacific is great, cost about £1000 to get there with AirNewZealand and for accommodation try sunrise beach - http://www.sunrise.co.uk, thatched roof cottages about £45 - NZ$95) per night, not luxurious but location to die for, check out island and sunrise beach on web and be sure to take a day trip to aitutaki (below), a fabulous atoll 40 mins plane flight north, the trip includes 3 hour boat trip on lagoon + lunch (£199), you'd do a week for 3 grand (for 2) easy and maybe have a few days in LA or SF as stopover on way back.
For 2 weeks try Crete or Madeira, both beautiful islands.

None of your buisness
Formentera, an island just off Ibiza is to be considered the most beautiful island of the meditterean, white/pink sand, clear water, the finest beaches you could imagine and not an Englishman in sight (apart from the occassional england footballer)
