it shouldn't be who'd win in a FIGHT between the two....because as you point out, there are too many CONDITIONS that could have a heavy impact on the result

it's simply which animal is HARDEST

Too right. Venue is irrelevant. Otherwise you could never get the polar bear and rattlesnake(for example) getting it on in a fair fight. It's all about who, pound for pound, is the hardest creature on this planet of ours.
