I know weve moved out of Summer holidays now, but Im taking the missus to Vienna for her 50th in November.
Only there for a long weekend, so wont have loads of time to explore - but anything I should be aware of as a "must do"?
Apparently all the Xmas markets start the weekend after we are there - but the price of the holiday that week was triple what we are paying!

1. Spanish Riding School tour and/or show. The show gets booked up very early though. We had seats on the top of the arena which were reasonably priced and more than acceptable.

2. A traditional Viennese grand cafe (wine and cake for Elevensees)

3. Wandering around the old town area at night time

4. We did the a Ferris wheel but it was a bit meh imo.

1. Kusadasi now in Week 2 of 2. Still glorious summer with September perhaps the best month to be here.
2. Bodrum next week.
3. Probably Kos after that before summer leaves us.

Not a summer holiday, but I didn't want to start a new thread just for this.
Me and the Mrs have just booked a few days away in January to Brussels, doing day trips to Bruges, Ghent and Antwerp. Our apartment is right on the border between Brussels city centre and Anderlecht, has anyone stayed close to here before? If so, what's it like?
Reason I ask, is Mrs G has decided to read loads of reviews about the area but has also decided the one negative review which mentions crime is the one and only review to listen to.
Also, any recommendations for things to do? Neither of us have been to Belgium before so all suggestions welcome. (She's already said we're not watching Anderlecht, Ghent or Bruges play football.)
Is it also worth jumping on the Eurostar for a day in Amsterdam?

We did our version of the North Coast 500 from Inverness round the top, couple of days on Skye and then down through Glencoe to Glasgow. Magical, absolutely magical, what a wonderful, breathtaking part of the world Scotland is.

Has anyone on here been to Mykonos? Always wanted to visit Greece, and it seems one of the more popular islands for a tourist to visit. Thanks. Also, what are some of the must do things in Athens? Hopefully can get there in the Spring.

We did Belgium in 2014. Bruges is chocolate box and very tourist-y, and you can see why. We didn't get on that well with it, but I'd imagine plenty do. Gent was great: it's bigger and more life going on in it.
Antwerp station is well worth a view if you're using the train.

Yes, we'll be using the train to get to all the places mentioned. We were originally going to stay in Bruges but Brussels seemed the better place to branch out from.
Heard good things about Ghent so I'm looking forward to that. My Mrs is a chocoholic so I'm sure she'll be in her element in Bruges.

After a great trip on my own this year to Macedonia and Albania I'm thinking of getting a bit further away next year. Anyone ever been to Zambia?

Mykonos is the most fashionable Greek island to visit . It has great restaurants, boutique hotels ,shops and nightlife and Fab views . It’s also considerably more expensive than the other Greek islands .

It's on a steady decline down. The locals love to rip off a tourist and annoying loud Americans are driving the prices up even higher and driving the Europeans away. The previously half decent beach clubs there just pack as many people as humanly possible in with no regard for comfort or any kind of half decent service.

Peaked as a trendy resort a few years ago.

Still worth going to as part of a tour of the Greek islands.

Once England footballers start frequenting somewhere, it's time to move on. Same with Ibiza.

I disagree with this. It's tainted for sure but still plenty of hidden treasures - still a beautiful island. And a wealth of brilliant nightlife away from the commercial crap (at a cost sadly)

First night of my honeymoon was in Athens - we had an earthquake.

I have heard the obvious corny joke thanks.

I agree there are still hidden treasures but it gets tiring having to keep moving on as the commercialism gobbles up more and more of them. I feel it reached a peak about 5 years ago but I’m thinking of going again next summer so maybe I’ll tap you up for some ideas!
