I went on holiday last summer to Kefalonia and Zante when covid retreated and it was all perfectly fine, covid really has brung out the judgemental know it all’s hasn’t it. If people want to book a holiday fine, if you don’t want to yet, fine.

As for me, I’ve just booked a week to Croatia in late may, bit of a gamble on the weather as much like anywhere in Europe it can be 30c or it can be 19c and drizzle for a week, have booked flexibly though so I can change should I see a terrible weather forecast. Already counting down the days, decided against booking our usual long haul holiday until things are clearer.

I'll be holidaying in the UK, we used to cruise with celebrities but that is very much a thing of the past in this new world. Much rather holidaying where I know I can be in a covid secure, sterile environment with proper procedures and cleanliness.

I'm so glad I didn't have a mouth full of Cinzano Bianco when I read that

Barbados/St Lucia/Antigua amongst others have been doing just that for months now.

Nope. Antigua is open (I checked a couple of weeks ago when I booked flights for later in the year). Masks not required on beaches. Hotels and restaurants have to be certified to continue to operate but if so are open.

Edit - poss misread your post - I might be agreeing with you :)

Dear oh dear. Do you actually check your sources out?

The Global Times has been spreading disinformation for months.

The Global Times has been one of several Chinese state media agencies propagating disinformation related to the COVID-19 pandemic via Facebook posts and targeted ads

It was the doris's 50th last year and we had (have) money put by for a few weeks in Mexico, although thankfully nothing had been booked before the plague descended.

I would LOVE to book up and get away this year to my favourite country on the planet again, but there's absolutely no way I am going on a flight where I have to sit in a pressurised cabin for hours on end, in close proximity to strangers, sharing everyone elses air. Fook that. Our trips abroad will be on hold until this shitstorm eventually passes. IMO anyone getting on a plane in this current environment needs their rocks felt.

Think I'll play it safe (money wise, not Covid-wise) and go for a couple of weeks in Ireland. Would love for things to have eased off enough to be able to go with the Mrs for a few days in Munich staying with friends in the summer as well, dunno if that's likely (i.e. major cities to have opened up rather very specifically designed tourist resorts).

I think/hope Germany will open up sufficiently by the summer but as the UK has left the EU it is now a “third-country” and there’s only a handful of such countries currently permitted entry. I don’t see this changing significantly in 2021 so although things might open they won’t for Brits.

The flip side of this is UK will be viewed as a single nation by other countries, which might mean opening up to us and not the EU

The poster specifically mentioned Germany/Munich which is what I was responding to. My gut feeling is what you’re suggesting won’t be the case though. The past year has shown the exact opposite ie when things do open up its to the EU and not third-countries.

Presumably that'll be based on residency rather than what passport you're travelling on?

Not sure exactly what you mean. But if you reside in Germany or are a German National you will be allowed in....but otherwise unless you have a good reason probably not. This is the current situation and I cannot see it changing any time soon for third-counties.

“ IMPORTANT: The rules for countries that do not belong to the European Union apply to entry from the United Kingdom from 1 January 2021. Travellers are only permitted to enter Germany if they are returning to their place of residence, if they serve in an important role or if they have an urgent need.”

This is what I am referring to.

'Matt Hancock cautions against booking holidays abroad'

https://www.theguardian.com/politic...-booking-holidays-abroad-great-british-summer

Makes sense for all sorts of health and economic reasons for hmgov to encourage staycations this summer. Not least to provide a much-needed shot in the arm, as it were, for the hospitality industry - albeit this would be at the expense of the badly-hit travel industry. Tough balancing act
