I think the Nazis were planning to use Brighton as there HQ when they invaded England. That is the reason why Brighton was not bombed to the same level as the other towns and cities in England.

So that confirms all those rumours about Hitler being queer!

I think you will find, further previous replies that he had in fact Jewish Blood and therefore not the ideal Arien Race he wished Germany to have!!

He forced his army to flatten the town he grew up in, in Austria and therefore wiped out his own entire past and private history.

He was totally fascinated in the occult and saw himself as a great knight in armour coming to restore and save the German Race!!

Total fruit cake and eccentric, but with geniuses this does tend to be the case!! They have a weird or mental side.

Look at Timmy Mallet for example!!!

I personally think we were lucky that Mussolini was such a stupid fat clown otherwise fascism could have reigned Europe, I wonder what that would have been like?
Hitler bought into Mussolini's anti-democratic doctrines and his glorification of violence and politics as theatre. But Mussolini never really got his head around the master race stuff. Neither did Franco.

Thankfully, there were enough divisions and mistrust among the fascist/nazi right to stand in the way of Germany, Italy and Spain acting as one.

and hopefully that's where I reckon Bush may come undone

They never actually proved he had Syphillis did they ?

In South Africa, My father God rest His soul, used to work with one of his relatives ( cousins nephew or something like that) and believe me, the Hitler family did not have Jewish blood! This guy once he was oiled told Dad some very strange stories about the family, the Occult was the theme running through most of them and he was obsessed by Wagner and Viking Mythology.

The "ancient" Roman Empire was Italian.

The medieval Holy Roman Empire was Germanic.

and he had black hair, and he was austrian!

He was a clear nutcase, but i do believe he was clever - if you know anything about Germany now, about their unemployment rate in east vs west, about their fears about euthanasia (Hitler passed a law allowing euthanasia to be able to kill millions of people) and their fears of anything happening again - Hitler still lives in the minds of the nation - to be able to do that 59 years after WW2 ended is incredible - if Hitler was stupid, he'd get forgotten about.

Also Rest of World let him get on with things for too long as they thought he would back down, so he got off to a flier.

I read a book recently, IBM & the Holocaust, and if what is in that is true, they weren't just letting him get on with things, they were helping him.

Hitler.

I wouldn't say he was a genious. He was smart and was a good manipulator. He built great roads etc, but with what? Unemployed germans or Jews?

He wasn't a genious. He was a fool. Anyone with a grain of intelligence would have told him to launch an attack on England in 42 as we were on our knee's, instead he decided to go after Russian (again) instead of finishing us off.

He was a chancer of incredible charisma who happened to be around at the right time. Able to take advantage of the huge German resentment about the settlement forced on them at the end of WW1 and say what the people wanted to hear, along with giving them easy targets to vent that frustration on.

Also Rest of World let him get on with things for too long as they thought he would back down, so he got off to a flier.

Charismatic and clever are not the same thing. He was obviously very charismatic but he actually didn't make any real decisions himself... until right near the end when he went megalomaniac and destroyed it all. The people around him were obviously clever... Hitler was just the right charismatic man in the right place. Read Mein Kampf and then ask yourself.... 'could any sane man with brains write this?'

He stopped bombing RAF airfields in 41 after we bombed the f*** out of Berlin allowing us to rebuild the air force. We were screwed before then.

Clown.

Charismatic and clever certainly not the same thing, as you rightly say.

That's why I went for charismatic, rather than crediting the man with too much clear-thinking ability.

There is a view that Martin Bormann (Hitlers wing man) provided the brains and Hitler was more of a puppet than anything else but I'm not sure how true that it.

I might read Hubris again.

very clever - you don't do what he did by playing completely thick

If you're that interested, read the two books by Ian Kershaw.
As biographies go these are among the best pieces of writing out there.

genius... was that a deliberate typo...therefore irony?

I think Hitler knew russia was going to attack him sooner or later..they clashed so much it was bound to happen...he just hoped he could pre-empt it by going first.

which went seriously wrong

he was clever but he was unhinged. he couldnt see the faults behind his own decisions etc
