Being a proud Irishman (and Brighton fan), more than anything I'm just completely gutted, I didnt give us 2 hopes of getting anything from tonight. We were the better team for 3/4's of the tie and am pissed of with henry and the lino in equal proportion!!!
If I'm being totally honest I think that the media hype around england is what brings about such ill feeling from the surrounding british isles countries, it seems as tho england has agod given right to think they should win every comp they enters irrelevant of when they have won it last.

As an Ireland and Brighton fan, my contribution is "oh f***".

Seriously, I am still holding out hopes for a replay. If we can retrospectively punish players for saying naughty words and the like, why can't we retrospectively address a situation that has massive economic and political outcomes for entire nations?

Mind you, we'd probably have lost on penalties anyway.

How many screaming outrage love Nicky Forster who scored with a winning handball goal against us for Reading at Withdean a few years ago? Yet think Henry is a ****, double standards?

There's some right old hogwash on this thread. Almost all players would try what Henry did - and would certainly not have owned up afterwards. It is the way of professional sport and not just football. Just think of Neil Back in the Heineken Cup final or athletes and cyclist queuing up to dope. It may be wrong but, until video replays are allowed, it will continue to happen.

I can understand the anger of IRISH fans but you can guarantee that if a Brighton player did it, the vast majority of our fans would be more than okay with it.

Brighton factually.....
How many of us would have done the same in that situation ???

I know i would, for gods sake its a place in the world cup. It might be cheating, but im sure its instinct to stick your hand out imagine the passion the feeling at the chance of putting your team through..................Of course you would, and if you say you would'nt have done that or charge after the ref saying NO ref i handballed it .............I dont belive you. Its The refs & linos fault. Not human instant reaction.

Anyway Irleland should have finished the game long before that.

Oh and i would rather go out to France than Ireland anyday.

Where did i say it was right ? I cant see that in my post can you ?

Im saying its instinct sometimes and the two incidents are very different as Maradona jumped and punched the ball. Henry was near the touchline and the ball bounced towards his hand and he may have instinctvly pushed it to keep it in. Its not right im just saying imagine the pressure split second reactions etc thats all.

The first handball, yes it was probably instinctive. But the 2nd one was not, it was clear cheating.

I was supporting Ireland because they were the underdogs, I'm not so insecure as to worry that they wouldn't be supporting us if the positions were reversed.

Anyway, at least they can sympathise a bit with us for Maradonna and 1986 now.

I have not said it was not cheating Mr Commander
Its unfortunately part of football and has been since the first ball was kicked a hundred odd years ago. If its anyones fault its the linesman and refs fault as much as the cheats fault. Until we bring the third eye/touchline technology or whatever you want to call it, We have to accept these decisions even if they are clearly wrong. If you dont like dont play these things do come round. This will hang over Henrys head for a very long time and he will already be regretting what he did as he seems a genuine guy.

Another thing that wrankles me this morning is all this talk on talksport etc that the game should be replayed......Why just because its the loveable Irish ??? Would there be the same vehement arrgument from the Irish/scottish/Welsh if it was England this happened to..........I think not.

Perhaps if the Irish defended instent of appealing, it might not have happened.
I, like everyone else, inc Henry, know it was wrong, and we are only talking about a split second, but Given, nos 8 and the other one weren't defending they all had their arms in the air. (I know I'm being harsh)

I'm not suprised it got 'missed', the ref didn't have a chance.

If I'm honest, that statement is a load of bollocks. It has sod all to do with media hype.

Did the Irish get all outraged over Maradona in '86? Did they bollocks, so why should we care what happened to them last night?

The ref's had a mare, but these things happen in soccerball.

I recall Ronald Koeman scoring from a freekick to send England out in WC qualifying in 1994, yet he should have been sent off long before then, for a blatent foul on David Platt after he was hauled down when clean through on goal with the score at 0-0.

And it's only Ireland, a country that loves to see England fail. Now I can't say I feel that way about Ireland, but I'll be f***ed if I'm going to waste time getting outraged over a team that only had 6 shots in the entire game compared to France's 19.

I've met a lot of Irish people in the past and they all say how Maradona is GOD for what he did to England, payback is ever so sweet. :bigwave:
