I tried getting involved with one of the charities doing the same sort of thing, but unfortunately never heard back.

If you're still looking for people to give time (I can't I'm afraid donate any money) I would be very willing. I can't commit to every Wednesday, mind.

Myself and a couple of mates occasionally raid the bins of the Pyecombe M&S shortly after midnight when they bin all their perfectly good but out of date sandwiches, sushi etc and hand it out in Brighton around West Street, can highly recommend it as an alternative night out in Brighton!

Excellent. There is something quintessentially 'Brighton' about giving M&S sushi to homeless people. All power to you.

The answer is always Heinz Tomato soup.
There's always Mrs Beeton's recipe:-

USEFUL SOUP FOR BENEVOLENT PURPOSES.

165. INGREDIENTS.—An ox-cheek, any pieces of trimmings of beef, which may be
bought very cheaply (say 4 lbs.), a few bones, any pot-liquor the larder may furnish,
1/4 peck of onions, 6 leeks, a large bunch of herbs, 1/2 lb. of celery (the outside
pieces, or green tops, do very well); 1/2 lb. of carrots, 1/2 lb. of turnips, 1/2 lb. of
coarse brown sugar, 1/2 a pint of beer, 4 lbs. of common rice, or pearl barley; 1/2 lb.
of salt, 1 oz. of black pepper, a few raspings, 10 gallons of water.

Mode.—Cut up the meat in small pieces, break the bones, put them in a copper, with
the 10 gallons of water, and stew for 1/2 an hour. Cut up the vegetables, put them in
with the sugar and beer, and boil for 4 hours. Two hours before the soup is wanted,
add the rice and raspings, and keep stirring till it is well mixed in the soup, which
simmer gently. If the liquor reduces too much, fill up with water.

Time.—6-1/2 hours. Average cost, 1-1/2d. per quart.

Note.—The above recipe was used in the winter of 1858 by the Editress, who made,
each week, in her copper, 8 or 9 gallons of this soup, for distribution amongst about a
dozen families of the village near which she lives. The cost, as will be seen, was not
great; but she has reason to believe that the soup was very much liked, and gave to the
members of those families, a dish of warm, comforting food, in place of the cold meat
and piece of bread which form, with too many cottagers, their usual meal, when, with
a little more knowledge of the "cooking" art, they might have, for less expense, a
warm dish, every day.

Hello people of NSC, you are all beautiful. I am working away this weekend but when I arrive back in the beautiful South I will PM, update, organise etc, etc. Will not be out for a couple of weeks so will update asap. Can I just reiterate on here and to several PM's I will not be affiliating myself with any charities. If it's that big a deal having a normal bloke handing out some hot soup to cold people without having to jump through a load of hoops I won't bloody bother. And why would being with a charity stop a nutjob homeless person attacking anyone?

Myself and another couple of people go out on a Wednesday night in Brighton and give soup and tea to rough sleepers, we have only been able to do this off and on for the last few months and tonight I learned the other guys that did it with me won't be able to do it from now on. We only do it when it's especially cold but I would like to make it a regular thing. I was wondering if anyone here would be able to help out at all? I heat up all the soup and tea at home and provide the styrofoam cups and put it all in flasks etc so won't cost you anything (we take dog treats as well, so if any of you have dogs if you could spare a few, always appreciated). We go from Kemptown to Church St from 10 to 12 at night so obviously not ideal for a lot of you but I pay your bus fare home if you don't live near Church St. We will only go in pairs, hence why I am asking if anyone would be able to lend their time at all? It looks like we are in for another cold spell so the folks on the streets of Brighton could do with a hot drink/soup. Thanks for reading, Nibble.

Very willing to help if you need it. Just let me know.

Hello all. Thank you for all your kind offers of help. Due to some difficulties raised by various people and the fact that I will now be working away fro the next few months this will have to be shelved at present. I will not have the time to work through all the isues effectively. I hope to get this sorted as soon as and will let you know. Again, you have been very kind and I thank you.
