Now I know I shouldn't really be helping my 9 year old with his homework, and worse still using an internet forum to help, but this is actually quite hard for him and I am struggling too.

He has to come up with 10 songs that relate to the desert (it's their topic this term), I know this doesn't sound like homework but I guess they are breaking them back in slowly after the long break!!

I have the following after 2 hours of trying:

Horse with no name (been through the desert.....)
Midnight at the oasis
Nightboat to Cairo
Sandstorm - Cast
Walk like an Egyptian - Bangles
Anything by Sandy Shaw.....
Anything by Oasis.....

Some are tenuous, and I was hoping the collective genius that is NSC could help. Please remember this is for a 9 year old, songs by Korn etc.. will probably not be appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

That is SHOCKING homework and you should slap the teacher firmly around the head for giving it out.

That said - Rock the Casbah by The Clash, Desert Song by Def Leppard, Mirage by Fleetwood Mac or Tommy James, Korn did the Camel Song, "Alice the Camel" - Anon (Alice is a Horse, of Course...),

I agree, when I was 9 I'm sure I was doing algebra and long division.... kids have it so easy these days.....

Great work so far, keep it up. Some cracking suggestions and good tunes too.

...Possibly a cruel trick by a sadistic teacher who knows his music and also that the parents will be the ones who need to find out. How many times do you get a note back from the school along the lines of "tomorrow your daughter needs to come to school dressed as a Napoleonic Artillery officer of the Peninsular wars campaign, and needs to bring a picture of an okapi, an unripe kumquat and an old air filter off a MKII Cortina (pre 1979)" Well ok I exaggerate but you parents out there get my drift - probably. But back to the question.

Nights over Egypt - The Jones Girls.
Walkin' in the Sand - The Shangri La's.
Sandy - Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band (or the song from Grease by John Travolta).
Desert Rose - Sting
Sand in my Shoes - Dido

Now in all honesty how many 9 year olds are going to know those. Why do teachers do it, guess it's their way of coping for all the cack they have to put up with!

ps Apparently 2000's best selling 12" Single was a Eurotrance choon called 'Sandstorm' by the Finnish DJ Darude.

Not a lot of people know that.

Preaching to the choir brother.... On Monday we would like your son to come to school dressed as a Harry Potter character for our literature day, yeah thanks for the notice, I'll just pop into my costume closet and pick out something suitable!!

I'm 34 and I'm struggling with those.
