Thanks to ArnoldLane for his advice re places open late and his many positive contributions to the thread.

Good luck - hope you stay up but you’ll need to play better to do

Lovely old ground and fans that I met so want to come back next season!
Good luck for the rest of the season.
Hope the Brighton lads recover after the incidents in town overnight - nobody likes to see that happen - ambulances and police got their pretty quick by the sounds of it.

They weren't miles off in the first half.
They played a similar game to many lower half teams.
Well. For the first twenty minutes, they looked like rabbits in headlights and could barely get the ball. The main issue for us was that for all the possession, we didn't do enough with it to create clear cut chances, and as a result (as often happens), they grew in confidence. Then they created two or three good chances themselves.

Half time, they come out and it's much of the same for about fifteen minutes, then we start to get back on top. After we scored, it was as though all the confidence drained out of them and straight into us. You could see our players visibly relaxing, and we played much better. I'm not going to say I was confident we wouldn't balls it up, even at 2-0 (especially not at 2-0!) but that said, Ipswich created nothing of note in that half, and never remotely looked like scoring. The only way they were going to get that game back was if we gifted it to them, which thankfully on this occasion, we didn't.

I've quite liked the way Ipswich have gone about their business this season: getting in opponents faces, playing entertaining football, and I'd like to see them stay up, as they've made a far more worthwhile effort than the likes of Burnley and Norwich, who just go up, and down, and up, and down endlessly and waste a good Premier League space in the process. Unfortunately, there are echoes of Luton last season: winning friends, but not points. Their defence is weak, although Davis looks tidy, and their midfield is all but non-existent. There was not a single Ipswich midfielder last night who another club would look at and go "yeah, we'll take him" if they do go down. They might get interest in Davis (I thought he was superb at the Amex, and mostly pretty good last night, certainly in an attacking sense), and of course Delap, maybe even Hutchinson, but other than that, it's a squad which unsurprisingly has a very strong Championship feel about it. Which they should bounce straight back from if they keep the players they have.

I really hope it's Everton who drop instead of them though. At least Ipswich try to win games rather than just defending and punting hopeful long balls up to a big lump of a centre forward all game.

Good summary, and IMO, especially second half, I thought their defence (especiallythe CBs) was awful.

Yeah, totally. The number of times they dicked about in their own box with the ball was like watching us on a really, really bad day. Unfortunately, the pair of them looked like exactly what they are: Championship defenders. I can't really see the signing of Ben Godfrey being much help either: he was largely mediocre at Everton.

They never once looked remotely capable of playing out and playing through us. We were quite rightly all over them like a rash when they tried it.

More pragmatism will be needed if Ipswich are to stay up. They have a striker who can hold it up and win flicks. They should be going long every time
