Well I did. I know everything. You should have realised that by now.

Great to see a bit of NSC perspective on this one:nono:

Its a f***ing cat we're talking about.

Its a pretty nasty thing to do, but pales into insignificance against the multitude of abuse against children.

Pet lovers, get off your high horses and do a reality check.:salute: :salute:

I don't really get this point of view. Where on here has anyone said it's terrible to abuse a cat but OK to abuse children?

Bah, why should my cat be worth anything less than your child. If I ever see you carrying a baby I'll grab it out of your arms and see if a Pitbull wants to play with it. :salute:

That was a joke btw. But for some people their pets are their children...

I dont know if its true, but there is supposedly an old by-law around here which states that it's within your rights to kill a cat provided you return its pelt to its owner

If only we could do the same with peado's & terrorists!

But it is only a cat. I agree it didn't deserve that but an owl or snake owner would feed live mice to them, what is the difference as far as suffering is concerned? Our attitudes to animals amaze me, we happily poison and squash many harmless ones because they are ugly or continually catch them on hooks in ponds for sport but get all upset if its someones mobile shit machine that gets killed.

We're right to be upset about this, it's animal cruelty and that's someone's pet that's being tortured and killed.

You are right about one thing though, our attitude to animals is normally based on how fluffy they are. No-one has any problems killing rats, but killing anything remotely fluffy is a no-no. Spiders can be crushed under foot, it's not such good form to do it to hamsters. Fishing is absolutely fine, but using a crane, a rope and a sharpened 12 inch hook to snare sheep by the lip would be frowned upon by the local constabulary.

In a case relevent to NSC it also helps if the animal is really famous. Take Desert Orchid, mourned by the racing community (and members of NSC), but what about Bayard? No Where To Hyde? Holy Orders? Sh Boom? Basilea Star? Mr Babbage? Millenaire? Olaso? Buck Whaley? All of whom died in the Cheltenham Festival this year.

And what about all us meat-eaters. If we're happy to eat an animal, how concerned can we be about animal rights.

BTW I'm a meat eater and animal lover. What a hypocrite.

Rats are fluffy ? Hmmm, they are also well known for spreading disease of course, something not usually associated with most animals. As far as Dessie was concerned I think that most NSCers felt that the ranting of a handful was more than a little hypocritical in view of the number of unheard of nags that get put down. Not everybody suffers from Arachnophobia either spiders kill flies, keep up the good work you eight legged assassins.

It's also worth noting that study after study into mass murderers and child abusers have found that in many, if not most cases, they were involved in cruelty to animals early in their 'careers'

Quite so, good point.

I agree with a lot of what has been said from both sides of the argument but I think there is a big difference between feeding a snake live mice and just getting an aggressive dog to rip a cat to shreds for no other reason than to watch it happen.

Yeah that's not exactly a surprise though, is it? Makes perfect sense.

Exactly. Snakes are meant to eat live mice, and they need to be fed on something. I'm pretty sure there is no real reason to feed cats to dogs. Not live anyway.

Right across the board we humans do place our moral standards on the animals, and most of the animals do NOT fare well from our place in the world.

Every day, millions of creatures die in Britain so we can eat their flesh.

I feel that sentence deserves some thought, some space of its' own. Animals have indeed been skinned alive, because the abattoir method failed to finish the creature properly.
Human actually deliberately put animals under the most awful torture, macabre experiments worthy of Joseph Mengela, unspeakable pain inflicted on them while their brains were exposed, so we can examine the response ......of unspeakable pain. Blowtorches on the side of a live, conscious pig, to burn it so badly ...... that we can examine the effects of burning on skin.
The documented operation of the dismantling of a monkey, taking it apart muscle by muscle, organ by organ - so they could see how long the brain, stem, and nervous system could be kept alive without the rest of the body.

The tortures of the Japanese and Germans in war can barely approach the ones we regularly sanction upon animals.

Why not simply do what you can - shop at places that do not use animal-tested products. The Body Shop is one, perfumes and soaps, toiletries and household products that are not causing animal tests.

Do NOT eat 'Veal' especially. This is a young calf that is prevented from living freely, walking and exercising its' muscles, is force-fed with things that keep the meat weak and white, and is killed before it can enjoy any kind of life. ???
Cut down on your meat intake. You do not need to eat meat with every meal, you do not need much of it when you do eat it - if you must, then why not make the bulk of your meal vegetables, nuts, seeds and fruit?
Versatile, various, delicious, nutricious, and necessary for a balanced healthy diet.
Instead of Uncle Sams or some other burger chain - spend the same in a Food For Friends, or another vege restaurant, and actually feel that you have eaten healthy food, after it's finished?

You might also feel just a little self-esteem growing, from the small amount of effort it takes to be aware, and to not add to the merciless killings done elsewhere so that society can safely and blithely buy a shiny, environmentally unfriendly wrapped parcel, of mostly-blood-drained flesh on polystyrene.
