The Athletic mentioned a mystery PL player who turned down a loan to a North West EFL club because the level of covid was higher in the area of the EFL club and they didn't have as good a covid testing regime as the PL club.

I've no idea if this was Roberts but if it was I understand and sympathise with the reasons.
So would I - but if it is it doesn't sit well with going and playing five-a-side matches outwith the club!

Got to be surely and frankly don’t blame him if so but hopefully he signed the contract extension

NEW DEAL AND LOAN MOVE FOR ROBERTS

Young defender Haydon Roberts has signed a new three-year contract with the club until June 2023.

The 18-year-old also completed a loan move to League One side Rochdale ahead of last Friday’s transfer deadline.

Technical director Dan Ashworth said, “This is a great opportunity for Haydon to go and play regular football at a relatively young age.

“He has been on the fringes of our first team for a while, and regularly trains with Graham Potter and the senior players.

“He has demonstrated his undoubted potential in the cup matches he has played this season and last, and now has an appetite to play regular senior football.

“This move is one which is ideal for his development and we feel will really benefit him.

“David Weir and the loans team will monitor his progress over the coming weeks and reassess in January.”

Brighton-born Roberts joined Albion as a schoolboy, and has graduated through the club’s academy pathway.

He has also represented England at all levels from under-16 to under-19.

His first-team debut came in last season’s Carabao Cup tie against Aston Villa, and he featured in matches against Portsmouth and Preston North End this season.

“It was easy for me to come here and I’m happy to be here.

“I had interest from a few clubs in the league but Rochdale were the team who were the most interested in me.

“To be given the opportunity to come here and play with a manager who likes to play young players and trusts them suits me. That’s what I need to do improve.

“Where I am in my career, I need to get out and play games, so it was an appealing move for me. The style of play also suits me. Hopefully I can help the team do well this season.”

Rochdale are a really good club, well run and with decent people involved at all levels. The Albion obviously think they're a good base for your young players after Sanchez went there last season.
