I don't want to dig up old ground, but I reckon a big reason for him leaving was over the lickergate thing. Some of the people on here helped to get him suspended along with Harty and other external sources. He might still of been at SCR, and doing our comm instead.

It just typical that he is doing things with Palace. The people who moaned about Lickergate, please be ashamed of yourself. In future shut your mouths.
At least we still have Harty. We are very lucky to still have him. Harty is a legend.

He left because of Lickergate? Really? You don't say!?

Clearly he had been embarrassed professionally - more so than Harty who everyone accepts is more amateur in his approach to broadcasting.

You can't just expect people to ignore such comments if they are offended or upset by them (not that I had ever even heard the term before). Hawsey was a great commentator of the Albion but he chose to move on and that is probably the best thing for him. He fell foul of Harty's old fashioned point of reference and lack of a proper broadcasting/journalism background. But that;s why we love Harty I guess.

How many times must it be said; PEOPLE ON THIS BOARD DID NOT COMPLAIN ABOUT ANDREW HAWES. And even if they did, it's not their fault he said what he did or that his bosses took whatever action they took.

I have nothing against Hawsey but come on, I'm sure you've heard better commentators

I didn't reall like Hawsey's commentry. His voice was extreemly annoying and he tended to raise his voice after every sentence.

I'm sure we have, but not on SCR, and especially not currently on SCR.

If the new guy was any good, people wouldn't miss Hawes so much.

That is a fair point, I'm certainly not impressed with the replacement but I still think he is no worse than Hawsey, at least you can hear what this guy is saying.

I guess it's quite hard to attract decent commentators to SCR and if they were any good they'd probably get snapped up.

Hawesey "Doing Things" with Palace, what pictures that paints.

Good on him, he deserves to be working at a higher level, how many on here would be happy working as a junior commentator on a regional radio show covering third division football week in week out forever and ever and being listened to by pedants and grasses?

If it really affected him then he wouldn't have got another job in the BBC - let alone one in a higher position. Get off your high horse.

The people who did complain were allowed to complain, it's called free speech. People are allowed to state when something is out of line, and it was. I didn't complain, but the people who did were well within their rights to.
