In no way is this an attempt at a diagnosis, but maybe something that will help encourage you to go see your doctor ASAP.

When I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes over 30 years ago one of the key indicators was night time peeing. I was 30 at the time so age was not a reason for it.

When your blood sugar runs high (diabetes) your body attempts to flush out the excess glucose in your blood. Doing this dehydrates the body, makes you feel thirsty, so you drink more and thus, pee more.

A very simple urine dip at the GP will confirm immediately whether there is high levels of glucose in your wee and if not, will discount diabetes as the reason for you 3am pee.

I'm 67. I have to get up for a wee without fail every night, at 2 am, 4 am, and 6 am. Had all the prostate tests and told all is well. Perhaps it's just getting old?
I get up three or four times a night. So much so I have a pee bottle by my bed. I've done that since my 30s.

Is that kind of like a sheep dip?

I find that i wake up for a pee during the cold months but not the hot months i put it down to not sweating so much when its cold, anyone else notice it? But well worth getting it checked out by the Doctor.

A consultant has told me that we generate a protein that suppresses pee at night. This can fail to be produced in older age and result in peeing several times a night. There is a drug to sort it. Some small children take it to avoid bed wetting. See your gp.

My prostate is fine, but my bladder is weak. Nothing like a good 3am wee.

...but always get it checked.

Yes, detrusitol but you don't want to take that long term.

If you are overweight and have been for some time the a blood glucose test might be a good idea as @Shropshire Seagull suggests. There may be up to 1M people undiagnosed with type 2 diabetes in Brittain.

You can also self-check your prostate, or ask a friend, but I'm sure your GP will be delighted to it for you :)

I found that nicotine patches caused me to want to wee in the night but smoking doesn't. So, having discredited my own advice, go and see your GP

Is it compulsory ?!

I didn’t have a drink of any fluids from midday yesterday as a test to my bodies 3am wee compulsion. And it did not help a jot ! I’m now considering purchasing a sauna and doing 30mins just before bed to try and get me through to the 6.30am alarm call 😡
Guttering around the side of the bed, down pipe down the stairs to the downstairs loo. Just roll over and flop the old boy in that.
The missus side you might have to use one of those rainwater diverters into a water butt.

I'm getting to an age now where flicks of hair are starting to go grey and I need a wee most nights around 5am. If I don't then I get a pain in my back (this never happens during the day when I need to piss). I know I should go to the doctor for a prostate check but my practice is not very helpful or friendly.

Been struggling with a virus for the last week which has sapped most of my energy. Pesky autumn/winter bugs going round I guess.
