Have You Ever Lived Near A Football Ground

Dorset Seagull

Once Dolphin, Now Seagull
The closest I managed was being born in a house half a mile from the Goldstone and living there for 20 years. The times I must have walked the short trip from the age of about 7 or 8 upwards only stopping to pop in and see my mum at Forfars for a cake!

Had a flat thirty yards from The Station Hotel---Preston Park Station.
After a few pints we used to make our way up the hill and down the other side through Hove Rec in ten minutes.

I knew a chap who used to live with his parents very close to Anfield.

Basically, to get the game, he would walk out of his front gate, away from the ground, to join the queue for The Kop turnstiles. Then went back past his home, as the the queue moved forward.

Blooming right i did:thumbsup: Enoyed watching reserve games and rep games from the front garden or bedroom windows, even sitting on the throne i still got a glimpse of the turf! As the club were banning people we got more and more wanting to watch from the house, even had the club threatening to put up a screen:facepalm:

Thanks to you Rev I managed to see most games while still banned.

My first abode was off a street behind the Recreation Ground at Aldershot. I don't remember much, being a newly born.

I lodged in a house that was 100 yards from the away end of Fratton Park for 3 years whilst at Portsmouth University in 1989 - 1992.
I hardly ever went to their games as I preferred to save my money for Albion games.
Sat in the house it was very easy to tell how the game was going from the crowd noises.

Big roar = Pompey goal
Big Ooh = near miss by Pompey
Medium roar = corner
Quiet cheer amidst general silence = away goal
Tinkling Bell all the fracking evening = Mr Portsmouth Football Club

Prolonged sobbing - various creditors who'd just found out they weren't getting paid

I lived in the Dell for a year, albeit obviously after it was knocked down and turned into flats. They did leave a little bit of turf about where the centre circle would have been.

I used to live opposite this place, which was nice. Unfortunately, Evian weren't playing there when I lived there as they were still French 3rd division back then.

I used to work at National tyres next to the Goldstone. Does that count? It was great the hotdog man would give us free West stand tickets to park his van on our forecourt. I'd then sell my ticket later on to anyone who would give me £3.50 for the North Stand.

Just a 10 minute walk across the park to Argyle.
When I moved here they were in the Championship and getting 18k every home game. Could not park my car anywhere near my house aftet 1pm or 6pm. Great atmosphere all around as well.
At least I get a parking space these days but preferred it when I could not, after all I spent many years parking outside peoples houses at away games up and down the country.
