During the 60's and 70's violence at football was a fairly regular occurence. As a North Stander during that time it was almost inevitable that I would get involved,as away fans would often infiltrate that end with the aim of causing trouble. There were too many incidents to mention here but games against Millwall(in particular the time that their fans turned up wearing surgical masks in an attempt to avoid identification),Chelsea,West Ham,Tottenham,in fact any London club,,were usually accompanied by trouble on the terraces and around town.Of course ,matches against Palarse were the highlight of the season(on and off the pitch) and Brighton fans always gave as good as they got. It was a matter of honour not to run from the Shitehurst Park wankers.
Confession time now-I got arrested twice for fighting (once at The Goldstone and also at Aldershot).,and the 2nd time received a suspended sentence which brought me to my senses, and I steered clear of trouble after that.

You obviously took a few blows to your head. Forgotten all the times you ran at Selhurst.

I was at that game with two mates, one of who was 6'4'' and built like the proverbial brick shit house. Walking back to the car I heard 3 or 4 Bristol behind us, and one of them said "Look they're Brighton shall we do 'em?" To which his mate replied "Nah, f*** off, you seen the size of that c**t"
:lolol:

Made us walk a bit faster though.

Only incident was decking one of our lads who spat on me at Phalace. This was because we (minuibus load) had got there early and we were loitering (with intent) when one of our trains got in.

This bloke walked up to me and spat in my face. I headbutted him and that was the end of it until we confronted him and his mates in the ground and frightened them to death that given that they though the Phalace firm had infiltrated the away end.

Also remember thinking what a dump Croydon was and thinking I would never ever live there.

I lie, this was not the only incident but its the one that I remember best.

I took a real pasting at Canvey Island in the FA Cup - some girls was getting pushed about and I went over and said stop - she called me a wanker and then they kicked seven shades of shit out of me.

Cardiff at the Goldstone in the last year when we beat them 2-0 and then got clumped at Hove Station. Apart from that not much.

OH, a little rumble at Lewes train station before the Autowindscreen game aginst the Scum in 91. a couple of chubby chav boys wanted a right go bu there were 10 of us and only three of them. I felt well hard when they backed down.

It couldn't be avoided if you were in the North Stand, it seemed like every other week they'd be away fans in with us.
I remember Norwich getting tasty in the quarter final in 83, Birmingham was terrifying, they chucked coins all through the game then came in to the West Stand where it was virtually all kids and women - tossers.
All the London clubs were scum, especially Spurs and Chelsea.

Hove, f***ing ACTUALLY.
Lincoln away a few years back when all their showboaters put in an apperance and it all started kicking off, other than that minor scuffles at Underground and train stations etc, but never went looking for it, its just inevitable sometimes that if you are in a largish group of young exubirant males then you may get dragged into something you wouldnt be if you were waiting for your train home after work.

Following Aberdeen round europe was an eye opener, Feyonoord was everyman for himself, they had well over 1000 nutters just looking to start on anyone with baseball bats and knives meeting us off the ferry at Hook of Holland (!!), and Herta Berlin was very ugly as well, but the worst violence I have ever seen was against Swansea in a friendly at Bradford last season when the game had to be abandoned as it was basically just an organised fight that happened to be staged round a meaningless game.

Bizzarly whilst walking back down Old Shoreham Road after a game against Northampton in 1988 I seem to remember it was a friday (probably the day before the Grand National) anyway these prototype chavs ran past me and whacked me on the head then turned round and spat ,then run off

Unless you count straining to have a dump at MillStad, then no (violence of the smelly kind).

I go to watch footy, not be a naughty boy! :glare:

Blimey the underground stretches as far as Lincoln?!

In the 70s it was expected. I was never a hooligan, I never went looking for trouble but invariably, especially away, there would be fighting. I hit a few people and got hit myself, but I actually preferred running away, it was like glorified 'chase'. You'd yell abuse at their neanderthals and then when they charged you'd run away. It was actually quite exciting.

Ditto, save for my running around was in the Casual early 80's.

I remember Canvey Island......God that was scary. Anyone remember the BT man trying to fix a line by his green box thing and the Canvey twats picking up his tools and twanging them at us?

Too many incidents to recall, but I only really got involved a couple of times....West ham home and away in the late 70's Portsmouth a few times, home and away and of course Selhurst.

The palace games were strange as they always ran away at Selhurst and we always ran away at the Goldstone.

Worst one ever was Millwall ands the surgical masks. I dont think I have ever been as worried as that game.

Chelsea away when we all went in the Shed for safety!:lolol: :lolol:

Me and a few mates set up a little piss-take firm in the 80's called the CSF - Coastway Service Firm. We had calling cards printed up with the Lancing - Hove British Rail line on them. The ICF sent some boys down to check us out and we got threatened in West Street. Very funny, I don't think they were that worried when they saw us. :)

Have posted this on here, but got a half-decent kicking after the Cup match away at Hereford in 97/98 season.

Walking through the car park after the match and a group of blokes took expection so something my sister said and started pushing her around, probably to provoke me. Anyway, I took the bait and pushed one of them, giving them the perfect excuse to take out their small-town/small-mind frustrations on my face.

Was quite lucky to get away with a few cuts and bruises.

.....of course the next thing I know Britney Spears is on our bus back to Worthing doing karaoke on the mic ???

I got smacked in the mouth at Peterborough, must be four or five years ago, walking back to the station after the match. The coppers told me and my mates NOT to walk through the town centre but use the ring road, cos there was potential trouble in town.

And we walked into an ambush outside some pub. Bloke walked up to me, called me a **** and punched me in the face. We all just walked on, a bit shaken, turned round about 10 secs later to see an almighty rumble between them and a 20-strong bunch of Albion following up behind.

That's it for me, thankfully.
