Have we gone backwards as a football team in the last 12 months?

We rarely hit the 2010 autumn highs at the end of last season and having lost Bennett and Murray seem to have struggled to create an outfit as fluid and incisive as we had last season.

We've still done well to establish ourselves in mid-table and CMS and Buckley are good signings (despite our inability to play to the Craig's strengths), but that aside, I often feel we're not as good a team as we were a year ago.

Anyone else feel the same? Is it just the higher standard week in, week out, or do you think our 2010/11 team would've done better this season?

We haven't even come close to replacing Bennett and we are without doubt far worse at passing the ball about as a team.

That is one of the worst 120 mins ive seen Brighton play...i know all the debates will come in, and good!! but in my opinion we made them look good as we didnt have a clue how to stop them!!!....we didnt test their goalkeeper at all...oh i dunno....................just hope we do the penaltys.....

Wrexham deserved to win so you can guarantee we will win the penalty shoot out.

We are simply playing better teams. Last year we had the confidence of winning every week. Like Wrexham.

Against top-Championship teams I've fully expected to be 'found out' on occasions and outplayed.

Against a (very good) non-league side (who won't be non-league for long) I would've expected us to impose ourselves over the course of 2 games (+ET). We've been outplayed for most of the 210 mins.

Most idiotic thread of the year so far. Reactionary much?

We would have done well to keep Bennett and Murray but no, we haven't gone backwards. Jesus Christ.

It would've been reactionary if I'd posted following the Watford game. Or many of the other games I've watched us struggle to use the ball incisively in the final third - or create only one or two attemtps. Having failed over two games to outplay Wrexham (and after a inconsistent three month period) I'd suggest it's a genuine question.

Maybe a genuine question but I still think it is reactionary and near-sighted.

Perhaps my tone laid it on thick... but I am bored of the negativity on here for our mid-table championship team, just promoted!

fair enough, but you can see from my first post i'm not a deluded, new to the party Albion fan. but i worry that Poyet is struggling to find the right pieces with this rearranged jigsaw.

They are a decent team used to winning. That is what we were like last season. We fancied ourselves against Premiership teams - what a demonstration of the beautiful game we were going to give Stoke.

It is disappointing - but we are fortunate this season that we can let Gus continue to learn his trade, make a few mistakes, and look forward to good times ahead.

Fc United? Woking? last year we struggled against non league sides in the cup, its not a big deal it was their cup final tonight on a bad pitch job done! Look at Crawley at Old Trafford last year. Its what teh FA cup is all about ffs!

Yeah, we've really gone backwards. We're playing some lovely football and now and then not performing. We're holding our own in the Championship, which we haven't really done for 20 years, and we show signs of consolidation and improvement for next year. Our team last year was the team for getting us out of League 1, and now we need to move on - which in my opinion we are.

We smashed FC United in the replay, once we'd figured them out. And I'm all for cup shocks, but not against us.
