[Albion] Have they no shame?

I think they do have shame, which is why they wont do anything until the PFA tells them to. Its far more complicated than it sounds. Once players of different clubs start taking cuts, every player of every club will be expected to do it. And while that may be fine and dandy for 99% of all PL players, its not the same for i.e. Championship players. And you also have a few players that spend significant parts of their salaries to feed entire villages or support their poor home countries.

Its a difficult problem that no one has ever dealt with before.

There seems to be a strong element of Two Minutes Hate in the way footballers have been singled out over this.

Name another industry that is continuing to pay its highest paid employees full wages for doing nothing.

A thought on the Piety Porn concerning footballers. An EPL player on £50k a week will pay just over 23k in tax and NI. That's 46%. After that, a lot of them are generous to NGO groups. It IS an absurd amount to earn but their tax contribution is huge and puts vast sums in the public purse.

Taking pay cuts will do more damage than good and only benefit their clubs. It's ironic that sports fans who are high riding over this get very upset when the teams they support won't splash out on the best players. It's also ironic that politicians calling them out haven't requested pay cuts for their top donors....

I gave my virtual Grand National winnings to charity. I did it through an online fundraiser and saw that an Albion player had pumped a few grand their way. Folk don't know what players do with their money. But they sure as hell get excited when they hear that they have been signed.

If you listen carefully you could hear the laughter from the Masonic lodges as they watch us sharpening our pitchforks frothing about the thought of Jason Steele earning his normal £16000 a week instead of the £13000 that would obviously save Tony Bloom, the NHS and possibly a few starving kittens.

The PFA should be coming to an agreement with club owners the the money is ringfenced for non playing wages. That way clubs do not need to furlough and bread and butter staff continue to perform an active role, either in the club, or maybe in the community. Saves government (NHS) money, and shows empathy from players to colleagues.
