We are looking to go just outside Sorrento for a week in August.

We will probably hire a car and stay in the mountains.

Anyone been?

Think they went in july time, but it might have very well been august, and they said it was VERY hot

Edit: And make sure you have ice cream at one of the ice cream parlours. My old man is still raving about how goot it is!

Is this the way to Amalfi
Every night I've been hugging my pillow
Dreaming dreams of Amalfi
And sweet Marie who waits for me
Show me the way to Amalfi
I've been weeping like a willow
Crying over Amalfi
And sweet Marie who waits for me

Went tand stayed in Sorrento two years ago in July
Very hot (90 - 100) but worth going. Must see places include Capri, Pompeii, Herculaeum, Vesuvius etc

Not too far from Pompeii either, which is definitely worth a visit.

Did you visit the pier......?:lolol:

South side of the peninsula is even better, but dearer! You are a brave man to risk driving on those corniche roads with mental Neapolitan drivers on their holidays coming the other way! leave it to the bus drivers- you get the view, they get the ulcer.

Good excursions to Pompeii Herculaneum and Vesuvius too! Best place to stay =Ravello.

The most curious thing..
Do the Amalfi drive but get a coach tour to do it for you - terribly touristy and cliched but much easier and safer - and you get to actually look at and appreciate the scenery instead of staring in horror at endless fleet of enormous coaches driven by men with road sense or sense of direction whatsoever aim several tons of moving metal straight at you in a tiny Italian hired fiat which has all the crumple resistance, bakes and acceleration of a coke can.

Also go to Capri but avoid the chair lift to the top unless you enjoy hanging off a wire far too far off the ground

Wherever The Mood Takes Me
Yeah, went there back in 97 I think. Sorrento itself is lovely but very noisy at night as everyone has mopeds. Capri, as already said is beautiful and pompeii is a must see, although I must admit I was disappointed not to see Frankie Howard there!

A word of warning though, a lot of our party wanted to visit Naples. We were very strongly advised to give it a miss as it is a very very dodgy place to go safety wise. Bear in mind that this was 10 years ago and things may be different now.
