Listening to a tape of the phone-in, I was surprised and delighted to hear that Martin Perry thinks the club could proceed with a stadium at Sheepcote even in the unlikely event that this site knocked Falmer out of the race.
The inquiry is looking like a win-win situation for us

Can understand some sense in that, but had the impression the primary aim right now was to prove how every site other than Falmer was not at all feasible?
Appreciate the 'Whatever-this-outcome-Prescott's-approved-a-new-stadium-somewhere' argument, but a little surprised if one of the alternative options is being given some kind of a thumbs-up at this stage.
Wasn't the Falmer case always more an 'otherwise-apocalyptic' argument than just a 'BETTER-than-X-Y-or-Z' option?

Don't get the idea that the Club are saying that they would be happy to end up at Sheepcote Valley.
Apart from anything else, it would be more expensive than Falmer, because there would be additional costs - like relocating the existing facilities that would be displaced by the stadium.
And - like everone else in Brighton & Hove - the Club would suffer from the fact that transport access at Sheepcote would be appalling.

No, of course - I've been given little doubt plenty of times the club wouldn't be happy to end up at Sheepcote Valley.
Just intrigued by the varying use and power of - to deploy a very New Labour-loved word - 'nuances'.

But what I think Martin Perry was saying, was that even in this worst-case scenario of Prescott adjudging Sheepcote to be the best site, then stick a planning application in for that, and Prescott couldn't call in Sheepcote for an inquiry given that he'd already ruled it the best site.
Now, you could argue that the club had made a £3m misjudgment over Falmer, but surely that would pale into significance in terms of at last having a viable site to build on.
What Perry appears to be saying is, if it came down to a choice between the club folding or f***ing up East Brighton with a load of traffic, we'd be brave enough to take the choice to save the club.
This sounds like a Plan B to me.
But it's all academic, because Prescott will adhere to his own sustainability guidelines on transport *insert prayer here* and WE WILL GET the best site of Falmer!

The other thing that shouldn't be overlooked is that if the Club had submitted a planning application three years ago for Sheepcote Valley, it would have been CERTAIN to have been turned down - because these days all major developments have to demonstrate that they comply with local transport policy and government planning guidance on transport.
It's a different matter, of course, if the Deputy Prime Minister kicks off a planning application by saying that he is prepared to ignore his own planning guidance in this particular instance.

that was what my final point was going to be, but time cut in!
I am not convinced B&H Council would approve a planning application for Sheepcoat, because of the transport issues.
That is why I was getting so nervous about all this talk concerning Sheepcoat

From the various reports coming back from the Inquiry it seems that Sheepcote is similar to Falmer in a lot of respects, but that transport issue is a biggie where it fails to meet the criteria set by the ODPM.

As Martin Parry said yesterday on SCR, it would be perverse of Prescott then to call it in for a further Public Inquiry.

You then get a voice telling when you are due to speak 'you'll be on after this or after the interview with Mark McGhee' etc
