I found it offensive - and it simply was not funny. So what if Brand has shagged his grand-daughter. That is between them. But no grand-parent is interested or wants to hear that about their grand-daughter. How is that funny ?

Will Jonathon Ross be laughing when his daugters intimate private lives become part of someone else's comedy routine for a few laughs. I doubt it.

Agree with both your posts 100%, well said that man.

I think you'll find it quoted in your copy of the Daily Mail today.

As a non Daily Mail reader can you find it online or paraphrase it? Id be interested to hear:D

Bit of a trainwreck really, I think it started off as being funny, then they just got a bit carried away, seemed to be like kids who pushed their luck a little too much. As long as they apologise to Sachs and his 23 year old granddaughter I don't see a problem.

The annoying thing here is that Brand is getting most of the criticism when it was actually Johnathan Ross, who is a massive twat, who started the whole thing by suddenly shouting "he f***ed your granddaughter". Brand should obviously not have then used the situation for comedy potential, he could have sorted it out off air, but he genuinely is a character that gets carried away and I don't think he was acting in a malicious way. Just wish Ross would go away now.

And I have to admit I did find it quite funny, though obviously it should have been cut.

But Kaiser - Russell Brand shagging the girl is not the issue. They are both adults. Does the grand-father have to hear about it on his answering machine is more the point.

And Spider - yes - Ross is a complete and utter twat.

No he doesnt-however if she didnt put herself around as it seems, then it probably never would have happened.

...but just who is more offensive, Brand or Harty.

There's only one way to find out - FIGHT!

What makes Ross's behaviour even more pathetic is the number of lawyer's letters he send out an almost a weekly basis to the papers about the most trivial of things and all sorts of very fair comment about his dubious talents. And then he does this.

If I was the BBC I'd call him in, and say 'we were going to sack you, which we clearly can for gross misconduct, but if you take a £4million-a-year pay cut in these credit-crunch times you can stay. Which is it?'

It looks like there is going to be some parity between this and lickergate.
It's all over Sky news that a couple of MPs have raised a motion in parliament for them to be sacked, so it looks like this is going to be equally blown out of proportion. The stupid thing is that the show was pre-recorded, so they could've just cut it out and avoided this whole mess.
It's also worth mentioning that only two people complained after hearing it on the radio. Once it was publicised the BBC received 5000 complaints.

But Tooting do you not think that if that happened he would take his P45 and ITV (or Sky, or someone) would hoover him up, pay him whatever he's getting from the BBC and just simply replicate all of the stuff he currently does, thereby taking viewers away from BBC?

And Billy, as I understand it most of the fuss is not particularly about the conduct of Ross and Brand (although it was undeniably stupid) but about just how it got through to being broadcast, because as you say it was pre-recorded and somebody had to listen to it and give it the OK to be aired.

Quite possibly. But the Beeb would have saved a lot of money on a no-mark while maintaining some sort of moral high ground.

To get rid of him without this incident would have seen him running squealing to the papers about unfair treatment, court cases, etc etc. He couldn't do that here. So either he goes, or he stays at a fraction of the cost.

Is that right ? I rather assumed with his anything goes demeanour he would be prepared to take a bit of criticism. That is a bit poor.

What Ross and Brand did was well funny. The funniest thing for years, ever in fact

If you are about 4 years old that is. What a pair of juvenile twats.

The only reason this has caused any fuss is because of the Mail. The joke wasn't funny but wasn't particularly offensive. I love Fawlty Towers but if the the bloke who played a racial stereotype can't take a joke then he really shouldn't have dished it out or worked in comedy.
I like Brand's response

On Saturday night Brand, aware the Mail on Sunday was due to put the story on its front page, apologised but added that "it was quite funny". Before Sunday, the BBC had received just two complaints.

He then went on to attack the Daily Mail, referring to the fact that it was accused of "tacitly supporting Adolf Hitler when he took charge of the Third Reich" in the 1930s. "It's up to you the listener to decide which is worse. Offending Manuel, for which I apologise, or is it worse to tacitly support the death of millions?" he said.

Brilliant response. I don't think you can deny that Brand is clearly a clever bloke.

This has been blown out of all proportion by the Daily Mail which hates the BBC and will run it down at any excuse. They are loving this and are playing it for all they can. The fact is the BBC only had 3 complaints before the Mail on Sunday/ Daily Mail ran the story. That's how many people were offended who actually listened to it at the time. Three people!
