I'll concede that pace isn't something he has in his armoury. But I think he compensates for this by not being reckless in his positioning. I honestly do not recall seeing Mayo getting skinned too many times even in this division. There are always occasions when, at this level, someone is going to get the better of him. But it doesn't happen often enough for him to be considered a weak link in the side.

His arse looked a bit big sometimes which is probably why he lost his place, but as long as he's on top of his fitness, Mayo's alright by me.

Quote from Argus, sometime in the coming season...

When asked why Mayo did not feature in team selection McGhee said" Aye dinna ye notice that his arse was a wee bit too big, I couldna play him 'cause of that!"

Every pantomime needs a villain, and Mr Harding has willingly auditioned for this season's role of Wicked Witch #3, so come the Leeds game, I will be in the stalls, hissing, booing, and shouting "he's behind you" with the rest of the crowd.

Aww ;-)

And he has such nice things to say about Brighton fans, the club and his time there. I'm being serious, he had nothing but complimentary, nice things to say about you lot while we were in Norway.

Harding says:

'The coaching staff are first class and at the moment I am loving every minute. I think it's everything I expected and a little bit more because I didn't realise the actual size of the club.'

I thought he always supported Leeds as a boy?

Funny how he did not realise the size of the club and its large support!

The kid is a tosser! :censored:

Easy?

I think we need to plan what and how we will be 'hurling' at him.

Get baking!!
I may even branch out into savoury this season. Given practice, a Jacobs Cream Cracker can be gnawed into something similar to a Shaolin Fighting Star. With a flick of the wrist, those babies will CUT through the air (not the wholemeal ones though, they tend to be more crumbly).

Really? Well I suppose there is the small matter that without us he wouldn't have had a career, but hey.

If he were to come out and say yeah, actually i was a bit of a tosser with how I treated the Albion when I left, then I think people could accept that. But he doesn't seem to acknowledge that he screwed us about for a whole SEASON, so in the current state of affairs he deserves all the abuse he undoubtedly will receive.

Have you thought of Bruschetta glazed with olive oil and smothered with mozzeralla and panchetta?

The funny thing is, Leeds fans actually believe they've signed a good player.

Are they in for a rude awakening.

Not all of us do! I'm not sure he'll even be first choice anyway now Crainey is fit.

And Sam, yup he did. We had a party and the first team squad were invited, he spent a lot of time talking about his time at Brighton - said all good stuff. Then moved onto encouraging Derry to break dance, before the evening got very messy!

He'd have gone with everyone's best wishes if he hadn't pissed us about - he promised to sign a new contract.

Plus he's joined a shit club that filthy Ken Bates runs. That doesn't help.

I keep seeing this slagging of Mayo from various people on here, and frankly, I just don't GET it.

I don't think he's done a lot wrong. The only thing I would say is that his distribution sometimes lets him down. But he's rarely caught out of position (unlike Harding), he's strong and determined in the tackle WITHOUT being reckless (unlike Harding), and his attitude is absolutely first class (uhhhh....unlike Harding).

Personally, I will have absolutely no quarms if Mayo is first choice LB this season. He rarely lets us down.

Apart from his obvios poor distribution, he lacks pace, and frequently gets caught out of position... as a recent example, he couldn't even cope with the Lewes winger... he was OK in a back 5, but a complete waste of space as a lb in the CCC... that is why people on here, myself included, think we need a lb replacement (cover not sufficient) as a high priority...

Player of the Season 2002-03 (in this division).
I will be paying homage at his testimonial. Great servant to the club, and definately still capable of playing at this level.

I could be wrong, but I don't think he was player of the season when we were at this level three seasons ago... I do admit that he was OK in a back 5... as a lb, he was and is a complete no hoper at this level... no pace = frequently skinned... another example that sticks in my mind is Wimbledon at Smellhurst; he was a complete and utter embarrassment that day... their winger just made him look idiotic... trust me, CCC teams will target him if he is our lb this season...

he was runner up that year anyway.

Yes, mainly playing as a third cb... as a lb, he was awful...
