..everyone.

On international women’s day earlier in the year my workplace invited all the female members of staff into the office and had a tea party with cake and photos etc..

Today, on international mens day….we all got reminded to confirm our shifts or lose them.

🤣🤣

Have a good one, Chaps. I hope the women in your life are showing their appreciation.

My workplace celebrated International men's day last year by inviting us all to peruse a piece about toxic masculinity in the workplace that read like it was knocked up by a gender studies graduate. This year there is a piece about the "Women's business network" heading up the intranet with a footnote about international mens day.

I couldn't really give a shit about all this celebrate a day bollocks but the double standards make me laugh. Forget flowers on Valentine's day? You'll live to regret that but when was the last time I got Steak and a blow job on the 14th March? (Yep, it's really in the calendar)

It's International Men's Day every day on much of the planet. That said, it could be used to highlight some of the hidden issues that men face but find hard to talk about. Mental health being a key one. As well as the International Break weekends coming so thick and fast.

Or perhaps just a nod and a small show of appreciation for what men do.

Contrary to popular belief, a lot of men do a lot of good for the people in their life.

👍

I agree with the sentiment but the above post about anyone using it as a stick to beat men about the head with seems a bit off  I appreciate we sometimes need that, but sometimes men need a bit of praise too even though it’s a man’s world etc etc.

Well, yes. I think many of these 'Days' are born out of adversity. The Women's Day came about because of the struggles and prejudice they experience around the world. Mainly at the hands of men. It's a bit like the 'Straight Pride' thing really.

As a man I don't feel I need a day because in a sense I have privilege. But I certainly don't apologise for being a man.

My company is hosting a one hour seminar on men's health this afternoon. I'm hoping it has some useful advice.

I just got to the pub.

Waiting for the strippers to turn up so can celebrate MENS DAY like men did on lunch breaks in the 70s.

The straight pride doesn’t hold water because there is no gay pride. There is just pride. Pride for all sexualities.

Sorry to aksually you, but originally the event which has become Pride was originally Gay Liberation Day and was to celebrate the Stonewall Uprising, it has kept the same time of year in recognition of this. I go every year as a gay ally, and have sadly been shouted at and called a “breeder” by some absolute prick for kissing my girlfriend at one of these events.

Now it is a lot more inclusive to gay allies and everyone LGBTQ+, but “heterophobia” does sadly still occur.

I’ve actually got a bit of a grudge against Pride  I should explain that… my first rental flat was on Grand Parade, and I didn’t join the precession that year, because I had a splitting hangover. The noise was unbearable through the single paned windows and I’ve held it against the community ever since

So you're Gay Ally. I'm sure we've met.

For clarity, I don’t care for “men’s day” or being included as a part of Pride etc

My comments are mainly tongue in cheek, although I see no reason why a nod to men once in a while couldn’t be acceptable.

As a middle aged, straight white man, who doesn’t even celebrate his own Birthday I am quite happy to take a back seat when it comes to commemorating the struggles of minority groups.

All power to them.

Haha! Yes, I used to live on Preston Park.

I left town every Pride once I realised the drug fuelled chaos that Preston Park descends into.

These days I work bang in the middle of the city during Pride weekend 🤣 Glutton for punishment!

Did we meet in the Gay Ally-way? Are you Big Steve?
I think we did. Just off the Yellow Brick Road. I know Big Steve, he's a friend of Dorothy.
