Gods country fortnightly
FROM HEREFORD TO HERE

With sheer determination
A vision fine and clear
We made the noise which brought the boys
From Hereford to here.

Mid 90s. The fightback began.
We met each Monday night
Calling for help to save our club.
He answered. Thanks, Dick Knight.
So many colours joined with ours
On Fans United Day
And then we drew at Hereford
And drank the night away.

A joyous celebration
Washed down by lakes of beer -
We made the noise which brought the boys
From Hereford to here.

Homeless. ‘Right, Brighton Council.
Find us somewhere to play.
‘Cos we’re the Seagulls Party now
And we’ll vote you away..…’
Withdean. Bobby Zamora.
We really cut a dash.
He scored the goals which took us up –
I cheered and played the Clash.

With pride and dedication
And not a hint of fear
We made the noise which brought the boys
From Hereford to here.

To Falmer now, our final goal.
It took so Bloomin’ long!
Petitions. Demonstrations.
A Top 20 hit song…
Our lovely Falmer Stadium.
The Board may not agree.
I’ve never had a credit card.
It’s still Falmer to me.

With hope and expectation
And yes, a little tear
We made the noise which brought the boys
From Hereford to here.

The fight is won. We're fans again.
All cheering on our team.
A glorious end to twenty years.
Fulfilment of our dream.
The Albion in the Europa League -
And we’ve all played our part.
We’re more than corporate football, us.
We’re football’s beating heart.

This is our celebration
So have another beer -
We’ve made the noise and brought the boys
From Hereford
To here.
A timeless classic Attila

Just had a look for pictures of Hereford away and found a picture of Some of our nasties after Bristol rovers at home many moons ago. There’s one particularly nasty piece of work in there 😉

My god, a lifetime ago now but still proud I can say…I WAS THERE! Never ever do I want to go through an afternoon like that again. It was ridiculous!

Those pictures confirm something I thought on the day, that we could have got more fans in that away section easily.
The view was pretty crap for many of us as it was. If we'd crammed more in I wouldn't have seen the match at all - as it was I didn't see the ball hit the back of the net. Which is possibly why I have watched it so often since!

I was in with the Hereford fans. Almost got rumbled but told them I was from Dorset doing the '92.

Some were in tears at the end. I don't know how, but I sneaked into the away end at the end.

“Sense of menace”. There were quite a few fights before and after.
The walk back to the station afterwards was like going back to the 80's. It was a muggy day anyway and there was the clattering if the police chopper and numerous ambulance and police sirens. No colours anywhere - just the "sense of menace". Only clue was if you had shorts on then you were Brighton.

I arrived much later than planned, so our 3 hour leisurely smoke was consumed in 15 minutes. I was so stoned I can't remember how it ended.

The cattle market afterwards was a free for all.

We got into Ledbury early doors with our two minibuses and parked them up at the railway station as we knew as soon as we got into Hereford we wouldn't be able to drink etc.
As we walked into town there were Liverpool fans waiting to be picked up by coach to take them onto their game.
We found a Hotel opposite them in town and agreed if we kept a low profile we could have a good drink and get the train into Hereford later.
One of our number decided after about 90 minutes it would be a great idea to go outside and ride on some poor unspecting soul's car bonnet through the town shouting Albion as it went through the town at 10mph.
The Old Bill turned up eventually and we were escorted to the station and they then stayed on the train to make sure we went into town.
Once in town it was carnage and the Police were trying to escort us straight to the ground, but myself and my mate hung back and knocked on the window of this pub which had the curtains drawn ( unsurprisingly)and asked if we could have a pint and they said we were more than welcome .
We sat in there until just before kick off and got to the ground completely wasted.
After the game was a different story in the cattle market and then met up back at Ledbury then got into Newbury where it seemed every Albion mini bus has decided to stop and had a great night.

Same for me. In the seats next to the home end. There was a family in Hereford shirts sat at the front the stand, who were absolutely devastated at full time. I left the stand at full time and met my brother in the Brighton end, which was fortunate as it kicked off just after I left.
I hated the whole experience, as there was no real joy, just relief that we were still in business. TBF it wasnt helped by developing an absolute bastard of a hangover.
