After witnessing the annual visit by Van Dwellers to 39 Acres, Ditchling Road, I had a look at the B&HCC website to see what action, if any, was being taken. It was then that I noticed that the Council had proposed Sheepcote Valley as a permanent site, but subsequently found that the site was contaminated due to previous land fill operations.

The website then stated;

"As a result, we are no longer proposing a permanent Gypsy and Traveller site at Sheepcote Valley, and are looking at alternative locations across the city."

My question is - Where could such a site be located in the confines of the City?

I understand Call Me Dave has asked Hove Born Inbred to put them up as his contribution to "The Big Society"

I say move them all to Croydon. There's a nice big space there called Selhurst Park where their caravans would fit in perfectly with the rest of the local decor!

We've had this problem in "stuck up" Lewes....our lovely travelling clan cut the padlocks of the gate a few years ago and took up home on malling field (behind Tescos).

When i vented my anger at such breech of byelaws etc, a few of the local lentil munchers took exception to this and thought the poor little p..pi...pik....travellers should be allowed to set up home there.

After explaining that this was an illegal occupation, i asked the sandal wearers of olde Lewes town if they could take these retards...sorry, travellers and put them up in their own gardens.

The silence was deafening.

There will be a couple of acres of free land at Withdean from late spring next year...well, we won't need it anymore and have proven that up to 8000 people visiting the area have had a minimal impact on the environment...should be ideal for just a couple of hundred people at a time!

Eastbourne? Yes if they could squat the Hindlands playing fields outside polegate, might forestall those b*stards at Brihton Uni from trying to flog 'em off over the last 15 years.

My cricket club used to play up there in the early 1990's, it was a delightful ground. Then they chucked us out. Bit like the Goldstone.

I have a feeling that these prospective new tenants won't have their own clean up squad.

I know, why don't they park on Sussex Uni's campus ? There's space there as the usual occupants are too busy protesting about their fees.

Is that ground called 'Isle of Thorns'? Always remember a game out that neck of the woods against Sussex Uni Old Boys (ukranians sp?) about 20 years ago. Baking hot August day, we had Water melon at tea time and went in the outdoor pool to cool off. Brilliant ground.

Sheepcote Valley is the ideal permanent location for a travellers site. Who was the genius at B&HCC who worked out the land would be contaminated ? :laugh: What we really need is a big sign on the A23 with the satnav coordinates for Gillingham.
