I thought Dunk looked calmer and more assured alongside El Abd than he does alongside Greer.

Indeed - although perhaps it was somewhat aided & abetted by a relatively toothless Brizzle attack (which I wasn't expecting tbh). It's certainly very encouraging to have strength in depth at the heart of our defence, & Brez has surprised me with his assured displays too. Marvelous stuff.

I thought we looked good against Burnley for the first six minutes...Not really the best game to judge, me thinks.

well...attacking wise yes for first 6 mins i agree...but as regards to the defence which is what this thread initially was all about then ye it think its very relevant...and to concede only one goal with nine men certainly gives credence to that back line...ask mill wall how they got on with nine yesterday :)

Play Greer in the centre of a back three, as he is best passer of the ball. With two wing backs and play Buckley in a free role just behind two strikers so he can roam from side to side...

-------------------El Abd--------Greer---------Dunk-----------------
Calderon-----------------------------------------------------Vincelot
--------------------Jfc-----------------Bridcutt----------------------
--------------------------------Buckley------------------------------
-----------------Hoskins---------------------Cms---------------------

Is there enough grit in centre midfield there. Rival midfields playing 3 in the centre, e.g. CPFC in the September debacle.

Sparrow now playing fantastic. Keep him in with Bridcutt & JFC. And an orthodox 4 man defence.

For the record Lewis is 20 not 19 as people are referencing. Also imo Lewis should play in as many games as possible this year. EIther with GG or AEA . If you could put him in the starting line up at Peterborough please Gus that would be great?

Greer on the bench until El-Abd or Dunk have a poor game, unless Adam needs to be moved to full back.

That's how it's meant to work (and works in most other positions) - and will ensure that El-Abd and Dunk play at their best. If you're suspended because of your own stupid fault you have to wait until you get another chance, captain or no.
Respect where you're coming from but it doesn't work like that. He's the captain, total quality, he runs the show from the back and never, ever has a bad game. Has to start when available until any of that changes imo :albion2:

Never ever has a bad game? He's been sent off THREE TIMES!! As our skipper he must do better!

I can't believe there's so many posters saying Dunk should be benched in favour of a Greer / AEA centre-back combo.

This guy is a whisker away from being a Prem quality player. Bench him and he will be off like a shot in the next window and we will get a miniscule fee to boot.

The reason being that he isnt yet as good as Greer and El Abd possibly, only possibly, will be one day but at the moment he isnt. His heading for a big lad is poor and his tackling is irrational hence numerous yellow cards but both will improve with experience and more games which he will get but not every week at the moment.

I will admit that he looked better on Saturday playing alongside Adam El Abd than he does alongside of Greer. Having said that El Abd completely dominated the defence and organised everybody in it, a superb performance.

Question is though, who will Gus drop when Greer returns? Will he move Adam to full back? Or should he leave Greer out for a bit?

Same as last when Elf and El-Abd were playing so well .... if Greer is dopey enough to get suspended, then he must sit and wait while those in possession are playing so well.

Saturday was brilliant, as I was particularly worried about Brizzie City going forward, but we completely snuffed them out. Superb.

We've just played one of the worst teams in this division. Even then they created two glorious chances that they failed to stick away. Therefore, some perspective on yesterday is required.

Forgot about them, one of their players (Marvin Elliott maybe?) missed them both, absolute sitters.

When's Elphick back?!

I would rather relegate a player to the bench if his form dips, than put him there because he got sent off, as some of you want to do. Best captain we have had for a long time.

Greer and El-Abd are our best two centre backs in my opinion so I'd go with them.
