whoa, whats going on, I go away to the states on business and casually decide to log in to NSC and find out we've spent £1m on a single player, WTF

Then I notice the post about Gus telling the BBC SCR that we'll likely break that again , OMG

f***ing Get In :)

Get with the program wanderer....... 60k and a set of tracksuits is so last season.

We are in the same boat as the clubs we smugly like to slag off, it's called the Championship.

If you want to do this all without some money being spent on players then it will be Paul Kitson, a 13 match run of consecutive defeats and straight back down to League one with a much reduced season ticket take up.

You have to speculate to acummulate, Tony Bloom knows this, it's what made him as rich as he is today.

Spot and, indeed, on...

Some people on here appear so risk averse that its a wonder they make it past their own front door!

Claptrap, I gave you an example of a high profile International who played in the Championship on the back of you saying it could never happen in this era. You then side stepped by reverting to mocking a tongue in cheek question about whether Forlan would be coming here.

Your truck just crashed

Well, I said a high profile player would never end up in the "lower leagues" referring to the 3rd/4th division, which was the context of your Bobby Smith example as we were in the 4th division at the time. A high profile International would never end up that low (ie 3rd/4th division) within a year of playing for his country in THIS era (and by high profile I'm talking Bobby Smiths class, not some no-mark turning out for Trinidad & Tobago / Malta / New Zealand). There are plenty of Internationals at Championship level these days, hence why the top 2 divisions down tools on International weekends.

But that STILL doesn't hold any water with the theory of a player of Forlans stature coming anywhere NEAR a Championship club at this stage of his career, even if it was "just for a year" as you suggested. Its a complete non-starter. Even if we threw millions at the guy, why would he ever come here ?

The lethargic Murray gone, and two speedsters arriving so far...looks to me like Gus is trying to inject a bit more PACE into our forward line for next season. The patient build-up from the back, then a sudden turn of pace off the defenders shoulder, the ball slipped through and BANG, we're in behind them. I can see it all now.

:sexwee:
nothing better to think of

To be quite honest, he said 'no chance' to answering where the player was going to be playing. When asked 'is it up front' Gus seems to just palm it off with a 'yes of course' which sounded more to me like a 'think what you want' reply than a confirmation of it being a striker. Don't get me wrong, spending more than a million on any new player would blow my head off with shock haha, but it's not necessarily going to be upfront.

Not how I heard it... and Gus knows, as do we all, that strikers are the most expensive players in most teams (he has said so more than once)... expect a > £1M striker to arrive...

ALBION SMASH TRANSFER RECORD ON WORLD CUP STAR

The seagulls swooped today to beat their own previous record transfer for Will Buckley, by spending £1.2 million on promising young Premier league and New Zealand International striker, Chris Wood.

Someone mentioned Forlan, it wont be him...... but I have a feeling that Gus trip to Uruguay was to bag Santiago Garcia......

top scorer for league winners Nacional and on verge of national team and just behind Forlan and Suarez.

Benfica want him if they sell another striker (which they haven't yet)....

I reckon Poyet may have been doing more than sunbathing in Montivideo and has moved quickly for Uruguays next big thing.

Will he be our next big thing?

You never know... certainly more realistic than Forlan! :)

Frankly, I'd be horrified.

FRUIT OF THE BLOOM
Lua Lua is a reasonable shout, id think we could get him for less than 1 mill but it could easily be him

It'll be a striker, although I would love it, just love it if we signed KLL...
