The sooner harley goes the better he is wooden with an over inflated ego

Thought he did reasonably well tonight. His body language isn't great but he's tidy in possession and the one midfielder we have fit who looks for the through pass around the box. Of course, I'll get slated for saying it because most people who need someone to hate have already decided it'll be him or one of the Pai/ynters.

The whole thing is starting to make me feel sick.

Time to man up and get on with it instead of blaming everyone else and threatening to do one!!!!

The people saying he has to take the blame... well thats exactly what he did after the West Ham game... Oh and he's not threatening to walk, the players love playing for him and respect him, they wouldn't want him to go, so he's saying play my way or I'll go, that's good because it'll get a reaction from the players and it demonstrates his power and belief in himself and his way, and a top manager has to have that. If the players didnt respect him, didnt believe in him, and didnt want to perform for him, thats when we'd have a problem.

This is exactly what I wanted to to hear from Gus after this game. We did not play like Brighton, the team we have seen for the last two years. Our team is set up with the intention of passing the ball to feet, the players tonight just hoofed it aimlessly in to the channels. Gus is right to be angry with his players as they did not do what they have been trained to do, it is that simple for me.

He was utter crap tonight. No strength, no creativity, no passion.

Gus is clearly a class act I love him. The only thing I don't particularly like the sound of tonight is "we have the 17th biggest budget, confirmed, so my job is to finish above 17th" etc. That's clearly bollocks. We've spent £3.25m on a striker that any other club in this league would love to have, £1m on Buckley, £500k on Hoskins, £250k on Harley, we have signed a Spanish international who was once wanted by Real Madrid and will be on HUGE wages, we have three Premier League loanees (two of whom are vastly experienced), and only last week we added another striker. He is within his rights to tell us what he wants and I believe much of what he says to be true, but he should not be implying there is a lack of financial support being given to him.

It was 2.5m wasn't it on CMS? Break that down and its 48k a week. There are clubs in this league who'll have players on 15k+ a week, our players are nowhere near such wages, and we're playing catch up on squads who have spent money in previous years to build their squads to such a standard. Yes, they're big bold numbers but when its all broken down I suspect its pretty accurate. He's not going to lie is he, he'd be in massive trouble with the chairman if he was.

He's not going to lie about how big our budget is, but I'd question how on earth he would know exactly what every other club's is. He's spent £5 million on transfers and, despite what anyone says about our wage structure, players like CMS and Vicente will not be on peanuts. The likes of Barnsley, Coventry, Watford, Doncaster, Peterborough, Millwall and Bristol City couldn't dream of signing some of the players we have. Would Vicente turn out for any of those? As I said, Gus is brilliant. He's supremely talented and a wonderful personality, but moaning about money doesn't cut much ice when he's spent more in a summer than we have for the last ten years combined.

You've listed the 7 clubs below us in budget, 3 of whom we've beaten, 1 draw and 1 loss. They'll know where they stand budget wise as all clubs have people in high places who talk to each other and they all want to know where they stand. I totally get what you are saying though, on the face of it, and certainly for us, its a huge amount of money. For me though the debate, if you want one, isn't that he's had loads of money compared to other clubs, but its how he's spent it. A valid argument for me could be that the CMS money for example could have been better spent, could he have got someone of equal ability for half the price, and then used the remaning money elsewhere.

So you're saying that EVERY other team in the league has more money than us? I just listed those seven off the top of my head. I fail to believe there is no other team that has spent less. What about Burnley? Or Palace? Or Blackpool? None of those have spent £5 million and none of them are paying anyone the sort of money we must be giving Vicente.

Fair point about CMS. He's a great player but it did seem overpriced even at the time. As I've said on here before regarding Gus, his strength is also his weakness when it comes to the transfer market. He's so intent on playing in his style that there are only a small number of players he believes can do it. Whereas a standard Championship manager would almost certainly be interested in ANY striker who has proved he can score goals, Gus only wants one that can do it in our style of play. So every time we look for a new player, we are immediately ruling out a vast chunk of the pool of those available. While this is good in the sense that we should end up with players that can fit in with us, it's bad because we may have to pay over the odds for the few signings we really want and, if it doesn't come off, we simply end up with nobody rather than the wrong player (as has been proved on several occasions since Gus arrived).

Those clubs may not have spent more than us on transfer fee's this summer but when you take into account any fee's spent and player wages, then yeah, we probably are behind them. Blackpool were in the Prem last year, Burnley had Prem footy and subsequent parachute payments too.

I don't disagree with your second paragaph, that is how he seems to work, but I don't think that makes him especially unique. A lot of managers will try and get certain types of players, its just much more in your face with Gus. Billy Davies for examples loves the long balls into the channels with big forwards out wide, who'll then centre the ball for the other striker and box to box midfielders.

...if it doesn't come off, we simply end up with nobody rather than the wrong player (as has been proved on several occasions since Gus arrived).

How's that a problem? Just means we haven't wasted cash on the wrong player? All in all, I reckon Gus is pretty shrewd with bringing in the right players, although you could argue he's not very good at selecting ones who don't get injured constantly... :lolol:

We just got spoilt at the start of the season with results going well. Teams know how to stifle us now so it's going to be more difficult. Gus will get then playing his way & we will come good so lets be patient, if you were offered this position at the start you'd have taken it but having been spoilt, well.
Our position will improve, besides tonight & we only lost by one, then we haven't been far off in other games so relax & let Gus do his job & we will turn things around. Believe

because they confuse you...then they think they are wrong?..interesting

Why even try and put words into my mouth?

Some of his decisions are wrong, just because he had an amazing season last year it doesn't automatically mean the man can't make mistakes
