I use the same example EVERY time a topic like this arises but here I go:
No manager in their right mind will harp on about how cash rich he is in a transfer window. It would be suicidal.
In 1997 Kevin Keegan stupidly informed everyone how lucky he was at Newcastle to have a large budget for his transfers. Needless to say EVERY bid he made for a player was negotiated by the selling club as they new Toon could afford MUCH more.
KK ended up either not getting his targets or spending WAY over the odds.
So, WHY would a manager not downplay his finances? It's just common sense.
