Gus' 23 Man Squad - Anyone else worried?

I was just browsing the player profiles on the Seagulls website and noticed that there are still a load of players listed that won't be here next season.
I scrolled through them all and realised that we have very few that will actually be here AND have a chance at the starting XI next season.

Of the players listed, these are the 'probables' for starting/bench next season:

Brezovan - GK
Walker - GK

Elphick - CB
El-Abd - CB
McNulty - LB (debateable whether he will be here...)
Tunnicliffe - CB
Painter - LB
Dunk - CB

Navarro - CM
Dicker - CM
Bennett - RM
Caskey - M (Edited!)

Holroyd - S
Murray - S

So that means we have 2 Goalkeepers, 5 Defenders, 4 Midfielders and 2 Strikers.
For some reason Whing and Dickinson are not listed on the seagulls homepage (player profile at bottom right of main page) and you have to question whether they can seriously be considered as 'shoe-ins' to be here next season.

Essentially that means we are looking for (as a bare minimum):
1 x Goalkeeper
1/2 x Right Back (let's say the 2nd RB being cover for Centre Back)
1/2 x Centre Midfielder
2/3 x Winger
2/3 x Striker

I'm actually pretty concerned that we won't get enough of these players in.
We potentially need TEN quality players in if the other players listed on the site are either: Gone, possibly going, pony or inexperienced (i'm including Dickinson and Whing in there).
Even with Hendrie and Lua Lua we are still going to be massively short.

I hope in 2 months time somebody will bounce this thread and tell me I shouldn't have been worried but I just have a feeling we are going to be 3/4 players short of a decent squad.

Only time will tell......

Isn't Caskey a midfielder? Also what about Barker, surely he will be on the first team fringes for next season...? But yes, it is a bit thin! You'd think that possibly Hendrie will sign as well as Lua Lua on loan...

I wasn't too sure about Caskey to be honest, didn't he play upfront against Yeovil? Oh well, either way i've included him on the list!

Caskey is yes but Barker is nowhere near being ready for the first team, he may be in a couple of season but not yet.

No.

In fact, I'm bored of people worrying about losing Poyet or not making the signings.

1) It's still May
2) We've got the nucleus of a good squad already (as shown by their end of season form)
3) Poyet is still here and talking positively about his future at the club.
4) We have a chairman who will back him financially. If Poyet does leave, he'll get in a decent appointment for sure.
5) Players are still under contract

Last season perhaps worrying was justified - the squad clearly needed lots of improvement. This season, we need a few decent players - but the only real pressure on is to find a 20+ goal a season striker to play with Murray.

Roll on the world cup, so there's less uneccessary whinging, speculation and panicking about the Albion on here, and people can focus on the football.

And yes, that's coming from me....

Ironically probably the most positive post anyone's put on NSC for a while. Every word is bang on as well. As the cool kids would say.....This.

Ahem, but two of our better players will not be here come pre season, one of whom was captain... So I would say it exactly the opposite. We had a good nucleus to build around but now that Crofts and Calderon are gone it is a little concerning.

Chill - It's still May - Would rather not rush and get the right players - Poyet's only just back in the UK!

Think.

Brezovan (11 clean sheets or something daft)
Elphick (Back to his best)
Painter (class signing from a Championship club)
El-Abd (still improving, solid at the end of the season)

Navarro (player of the season form after Christmas)
Dicker (great user of the ball)
Bennett (loads of screamers and assits)

Murray (14 goals last season despite his injury/disciplinary problems)

If that isn't the core of a good squad then I don't know what is. it's not concerning at all. Especially when you consider that they all played a big part in our superb run in. Thrown in possibly Lua Lua and Hendrie, a couple of loans, a couple of transfers, and a couple of freebies, and you have a decent team.

Just wish people would chill the f*ck out!!

Personally i think more than just a couple of transfers, perhaps 3 or 4 but thatsnot much more than what you said was needed. Lets haev a good world cup and WIN IT!

OH and besides, lets not lie here, we won't sign anyone till after the world cup - gus wants a chance to see them all at their best before we sign our INTERNATIONAL SUPERSTARS!

Not in the least bit worried. This season hasn't finished yet for one thing, and there hasn't ever been a better time for us to buy players than now. We've released our (under performing) high earners, we've a top six transfer budget and on top of that the majority of clubs are up a certain creek without a paddle financially, we'll be able to cherry pick all the players we need.

Not worried, very, very excited.

Dago Arsemendy could be back on a season long loan as well.

Cherry picked by bigger clubs, as we'll be doing to some unfortunates in due course.
