The average age of a skateboarder in Vietnam is nineteen, in Brighton it's thirty five,
t-t-t-t-thirty five.

All those who've visited The Level
They won't forget what they've seen
Grazed knees on men beyond their prime
Whose average was thirty-five
t-t-t-t-thirty five

Its definitely a Brighton thing. You see far more grown men on skateboards than you ever see kids on skateboards. And its ALWAYS men. But heigh-ho, totally harmless, part of the general wackiness of living here. Shine on you crazy diamonds!

Haha this is a brilliant thread, i spend alot of my time skateboarding when not watching football. ALot of people on here seem to have the same views as many other people that it is a kids thing to do. This is a very fickle view and completely wrong, what is so good about skateboarding is that it can span over a large age range from young kids to grown men, this creates a good friendly community which is different when doing other acitivities such as football which you are often just stuck in your age group.

It is not all about doing so called 'lame tricks' but about going out and having fun. So why look down on them?

If I had a son who was in to skateboarding, a mini ramp would be built in the back garden. I would also be buying a skateboard again and start riding the thing myself. Nothing wrong with it. Good fun and some exercise.

My brother is mid 40s and would not be seen without his skateboard. He is Don Brown former world free style champion and now Vice President of Etnies. In fact when leaving his million pound pad in Laguna Beach to fly over to the Amex he never forgets a skateboard or two. I can put up with the boarding it's the clothes more suitable for a school kid that I find ridiculous.

See you for the marathon Don. Old men in Lycra that is much more like it...

Damn. I forgot his mates would be on here. I was bigging him up with Laguna Beach. You'll all know he is a middle aged millionaire about to go bust living in the less salubrious neighbourhood of Cosa Mesa with another kid on the way.

BUT he still skateboards and wears the silly clothes.:)

V off topic but, I had a delightful stroll down picturesque London Road at lunch time, and noticed a couple of fully grown 20 or 30 something men on skateboards intently skating on both pavement and road doing their silly jumps etc.

Being a 30 something man myself, I got bored with skateboarding at about the age of 13, realising that as a mode of transport they're about as useful as a lump of granite. Is it just me that thinks these blokes look like idiots and need to groq up?!

I wanted to open it up to let the good people of NSC to decide... Happy to be persuaded!

No I share your views and snigger to myself whenever I see it, but each to their own, live and let live etc, at least their not chucking polution into the atmosphere. Maybe we should all get one.
