Green's blocking Amex expansion plans? Steve Bassam

In terms of the Green party as a whole Lucas is the organ grinder and the councillors are the monkeys. When it comes to land and planning it's the other way round. All she's doing is protecting her seat at General if her foot soldiers stuff this up. No less political than Lord Bassam.

Wouldn't you just accuse Kitkat of doing the same, since he's not on the planning committee?

Lucas is squirming she will claim
the council has nothing to do with her which of course it isn't. I am sure she doesn't manipulate Brighton and Hove council in anyway. So of course she will put a spin on this.

Eh???

Clearly not. He's been asked on twitter several times to send the same message as Lucas and hasn't. Since he's not on the planning committee he should be able to. Do keep up.

I am keeping up. Caroline Lucas has no influence on the planning committee, says she supports the stadium expansion you say she's just saying that to curry favour.

Kitkat has no influence with the planning committee, if he was to say he supports it, won't that be seen as currying favour, too? Why should he bother?

jasonkitcat so subject to seeing the detailed plans and any impact assessment, do you in principle support BHAFC increasing their capacity?

The expansion of the stadium won't purely be a political decision, it will also depend on officer and external agency (highways agency for instance) support. As people have said throughout this thread it will come down largely to the transport assessment. If the club can put measures/improvements in place that can cope with the increased demand on roads, buses and trains then there would be no legitimate reason to object. If they can't then frankly the stadium shouldn't be expanded at this time...its as simple as that really.
There will always be solutions available that can cope with the extra traffic impact, its whether the club consider it economically viable to fund these solutions when compared to the additonal revenue from the seats.

And any members of the planning committee who comment on this proposal, before an application is submitted and the evidence reviewed would in my opinion risk fettering their discretion and therefore their ability to be involved in the debate/vote at any future committee.

Actually yes. Would have saved a binfest if he'd said so a couple of days ago but better late than never.

I though the KitKat Stadium is the home of York City.

Why is he banging on about Falmer?

Every time you post on the subject of local politics, Caroline Lucas gains more votes.

Well irrespective of her policies, I'd vote for her solely on the basis that the rabidly tory hove born & bred is against her

Caroline Lucas has been an impressive MP - she's been recipient of awards from the Tory Spectator and from Total Politics magazine.

I think she'll comfortably increase her majority next time round ... and will double it if HB&B canvasses for the Tories again

She won't because labour will get their act together and split the anti-Tory vote.

Which will lead to a Tory MP.

Do you know what squirming actually means? She's just tweeted she is fully in support of bhafc expansion. How the f*** is that squirming?

Exactly this. Her share of the vote is going to increase, and I reckon the green vote in neighbouring wards will too. HB&B campaining for the Tories is a trivial but amusing string to her bow, and she can only hope (in vain) that someone as fuckwitted can "assist" the Labour campaign in the same way.

Ed, thanks for this.

I can't be bothered to wade through all these pages but is the success or failure of the planning application for 8000 seats solely dependent on those car parking spaces? In other words, if people can't park there, then the planning application has to be rejected?
Steve Bassam is suggesting that this is the case. I think it might be more complicated than that.

I'd like to know more about the Club's consultants' assessment of the transport impact of stadium expansion, but that may be because I'm a transport planner.

Stadium expansion seems to be an issue that the Club want to push through very quickly. Jason Kitcat seems to be arguing a case for careful consideration of all the issues, Steve Bassam seems to be saying that any delay will be seriously damaging to the Club.
