Great places in the UK to visit?

Barrel of Fun

Abort, retry, fail
A trek down Offa's Dyke was one of my best holidays. Some superd scenery and pretty much have the place to yourself.

The best night was camping in the grounds of the Baskerville Hall Hotel and paying a visit to Hay-on-Wye.

Wales is superb for a local break. Ynyslas. Cadair Idris. Barafundle Bay. And so on...

Can't believe the votes for Falmouth. So out of place in Cornwall, or is it just me who doesn't get it?

Get over to the Isles of Scilly. Preferably an "off" island. Or just make do with West Penwith and the stunning coastal scenery.

I also love Langdale in the Lake District. And not just for the beer!

Here's another vote for Falmouth. Quiet and old fashioned, but with loads of pubs, restaurants and other amenities. Easy train or boat ride up to the "big city" - Truro. And in the middle of the glorious Cornwall countryside for walks. Possibly down-market, but unlike a number of towns down there, it seems to be thriving.

What is it you don't like?

Thinking of that holiday!? Went to the Gower surfing a while ago, had a great time and realised, there must be great holidays and adventures to be had in our country. Some cheap and interesting trip / holiday recommendations, or stories if you want.

We live about 20 miles from there, one bonus of living in this neck of the woods, absolutly awesome place

Brixham in Devon. Maybe a visit to Berry head whilst you're there! It's brilliant. You can go crabbing, there's some very nice local shops, pubs and places to eat. There's loads of things to do!

If you want a good seaside holiday, with some inland excursions ... Whitby, Southwold, Broadstairs, Falmouth, Tenby, Porthmadog. If you want some off-shore trips ... Oban.

Tenby would have to be an inland excursion, the town itself is nothing more than a stag and hen place nowadays, has been for a while actually, last I heard the local authorities were trying to tidy that side of it up, the only reason I know is we go to Lydstep quite a bit and that is just a few miles outside Tenby.

Glamping thats a new one, does it involve car parks and late nights?

do you mean whitby? whitley bay is a crumbling shithole that hasn't seen a lick of paint since about 1965

tynemouth is lovely however
The last time I was in Whitley Bay, I was struck by the advert in one pub window for LIVE SKY FOOTBALL + HALF TIME STRIPPERS. The place is a class apart from other resorts.

This Britain
Read by Paul Scofield
(Fictitious travel diary,if you have a bit of time well worth a watch, writing is brilliant.)

A mysterious advertising agency has tasked Robinson with investigating the 'problem of England'. He and the narrator embark on a series of seven journeys across England, inspired by Daniel Defoe's Tour through the Whole Island of Great Britain, based on Defoe's travels as a spy in the 1720s.
