That list is so BBC.

The British Lions 1971 and 1997 wins in NZ and SA are pretty special, while Torville and Dean's 1984 Olympic gold medal perfect performance was electric and watched by a UK TV audience of 24 million.

It's a totally bizarre list. We've had about 150 years of competitive international sport and the BBC produce a list nearly entirely from the last 15 years

As Brok has pointed out, the sub-four minute mile must be the most significant British sporting endeavour all ... and it's not even mentioned.

And why is Leicester mentioned? It's an English club winning an English league (and if you want to talk about shock value, surely Forest winning it the year after being promoted was a bigger shock?)

Was this list compiled as a school project?

Loads of better suggestions already, and I'd also add Linford Christie's gold medal in 1992. Netball gold at a Commonwealth games? FFS.

How on earth is the ashes win in there? Yes I know it was a particularly significant and exciting win, but it's a match contested by just two teams. Hardly a huge triumph that we finally managed to win it purely because we were so crap for years beforehand.

And as others have said, ridiculous that the vast majority picked were within the last 20 years.

The only ones worthy of making that list, for me, are:
- 2003 rugby world cup
- 1966 football world cup
- Murray winning Wimbledon
- Raducanu winning US Open

Super Saturday was great, but was a collection of individual achievements that coincidentally happened on the same day. Leicester win was phenomenal, but hardly a great British sporting moment that united the country. Ashes win not really that great as above. And the rest are too insignificant to mention.

At the risk of out BBC ing the BBC I think the Brownlee marathon was a greater sporting triumph than much of their list. In the true sense of both sport and triumph.
