No denying Howe’s Bournemouth were very attractive to watch and I confess to being envious of their style when we arrived in the PL. His big weakness is that his teams can’t defend, we’ll score more than you does not work long term though, as witnessed last season. He may have won more than Potter but he has been around for a long time and plied his trade through the divisions, getting to the PL by financial cheating. I have no doubts at all who I’d prefer to be managing us and didn’t waiver one iota when we were in the shit, results wise last season and earlier this season

My impression at the time of GP being appointed at Brighton was TB had achieved his then target of promotion to the Prem, and staying in it. With CH at the helm, and with a couple of seasons under his belt in the perm, CH had set his stall out in terms of style of play and as long as we stuck with him the likelihood was that we would remain hovering around and flirting with relegation, and it would only be a mater of time before we went down. There was never going to be a massive change in the money available, and on the understanding that if you keep doing the same thing, you will get the same results

Tony has ambitions for the club but given that buying a squad of players to get us up the table quickly was not ever on the cards something else would be required if the club was ever going tom realise his longer term ambition for it.. . Realistically given the budgets available the only way to do that was to take a risk on a promising, but unproven manager, that would potentially deliver a style of play that would keep the fans happy, but also propel us up the table using young talent from the academy, and "bargain" buys from elsewhere that will progress the club, and attract better and better players as progress is made and we slowly climb the rankings

The risk is of course that it doesnt work quickly enough to keep in the division, and develop the young talent. Luckily for us, so far its working. The style of play is much more entertaining and as a result this and the use of young talent encouraged Lampty for example to join, and the likes of Lallana ,Welbeck, and Veltman to the club.

Potters stock is rising, but it is still early days, and all could go horribly wrong, He hasn't done anywhere near enough to attract the likes any of the top 10 to want him NOW, however I would be amazed if a few of them haven't said, lets see what he does at Brighton, he may be one for the future IF he progresses

The vast majority on here seem to agree that the team now plays good, entertaining football, and that we are nearly there, we just need that final piece of the puzzle. We are all disappointed that we aren't higher up the table, and the pundits agree. Two years ago most were amazed we stayed in the division, that we were playing negative, uninspiring football and felt we had over achieved and playing above our station and hanging in there just.. Thats no longer the case. Tonys gamble on GP is on the verge of paying off, nothing is guaranteed . Its a development project for the club , the manager, and the players. Its an unusual situation because the chairman is prepared for it to take a few years, with incremental gains in league position . If it works and over the next few years the team improves its average league position then and only then will the big boys start to take an interest in acquiring GPs services

I'm not overlooking Potter's achievements in Sweden but I think we could consider achievements in England to hold more weight than those in countries with a relatively average UEFA coefficient.

Potter's also competed pretty well in the Europa League: Östersunds beat Galatasaray, Hertha Berlin and Arsenal, and drew with Athletic Bilbao (amongst others).

GP's still only 45 years old. He's previously taken his wife and family to go and live on almost the edge of the Arctic circle for seven years.

Ever stop and ask yourself why he felt the need to put his family through such a thing? (lovely tho parts of Scandinavia undoubtedly are)

Or why, prior to that, take on the role of technical director for the Ghana women's team at the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup.

In short, are you familiar with the term 'mediocrity'?

You have some problem with people taking the long route rather than get everything served on a silver platter? Do you reason the same way when you are at the doctor, "oh no this ****er got a five year education in a university, I demand one who experienced the lobotomy himself".

Every manager, even the beloved CH that you are never getting back started somewhere at some point.

Well played for getting this far without reading the core argument against hiring a gormless tvvat (and all his little yes men) with next to no track record at any kind of meaningful level on a stupidly long contract. Are you TB by any chance? ???

We are heading towards a third season out of four finishing 15th place. We haven't looked like finishing higher than we currently are and Graham Potter has to win 2 more games to match Chris Hughtons tally. He does a lot of good things but a lot of people ignore his failings.

Well, it's not really my sense of humour, but as with any comedy, keep going I'm sure someone will find it funny.

I think your post raises more questions about you than Graham Potter.

You may have difficulty at the moment seeing what a visionary he is, but once the results improve you'll find it a bit easier to understand what's happening.
You're not alone in your lack of insight, but I reckon you'll eventually see the light.

The man's a brilliant coach, very ambitious and we're lucky to have him.

Surely you cannot blame Potter for Maupay's abject shooting? Or Connelly's? Or in fact ANY of the culprits who game after game either miss the target or don't score.

His job is to coach the players to be more comfortable on the ball in my opinion....get into good areas.....defend well.......play as a team, etc.

I for one do not what to go back to the dark ages of Hughton's last season, where the football was turgid and an embarrassment frankly at times (Spurs away a prime example)

Of course not.

But if Potter wanted, he could use tactics that create different types of chances.

Potter wants to play HIS way why the feck should he change that? Have we been in the relegation zone after more than a couple of games under him? Anyone would think we had been propping the table up from some of you and other knockers posts. How high have you managed a football club. I’m guessing football league at least?

Yet when we win, threads praising Potters tactics turn up. People understand how coaches affect games when it suits them, also if his job is to coach players to be more comfortable on the ball etc, why isn't his job to deal with Maupays or Connellys abject shooting. You can't say hes doing a good job with the good things the players do but not a bad job with the bad things the players do.

Shot in the dark here, could it be the quality of players we have up front? He has sorted everything apart from the forwards, I expect that to change if we stay up. Time will tell, maybe Maupay will come good he does quite a lot right and is still quite young

Where did I say he should change it? He wants to play a certain way (which for the most part is working well). However, with the chances we are creating in his system, our strikers are struggling to score.

He can either maintain the tactics, believe that eventually they start converting (or we add players that can take the chances).

Or, he can tweak the system to create different types of chances.

Agree with most of that, care to expand on the last sentence?
