[Albion] Graham Potter tells Brighton fans: Stop shouting 'shoot'... it's putting off our players

New players up front would be good

But we could be scoring many more goals with the players we've got.

Stop taking the extra passes. Get the full backs higher earlier, get it in the box first time, get the strikers flying into the channel behind the defenders.

The "Man City build up with Brighton players" approach has comprehensively failed over a long period of time.

We'll surely concede more, as GP rightly points out, we'll lose possession more and be more vulnerable to the counter. But season upon season of low scoring games with nothing to celebrate is turning people off in droves. We can't continue as we are. Our stats and our recent record is there for all to see. Potter needs to change course for the final games of the season or he should be replaced with someone who has a plan to get us goals

oh I loved Vicente but we'll never get anyone like him again, total fluke by Poyet. .

Except we do have a player who has won the Champions League, the Premier League and played for his country 34 times. A better record than Vicente too.
And has played more times for Brighton than Vicente - against a lot better players. .

Who would have thought it?

Newspapers love to imagine and say that they have influenced things. "It woz the Sun wot wun it" etc.

If it will have any effect (and none is likely) it will be to unsettle the playets. Well done the Anus.

And good luck in their campaign to have Potter sacked and/or the club relegated.

And the best bit is that this is all deniable if shit doesn't hit the fan!

Sorry if I offended you.

I retract my statement that it is bad that British media has a habit of making things up about random people while mediating opinions and sweeping things under the rugs about those in power due to the fear of getting sued. Its great stuff and might take you places you couldnt even imagine.

again you demonstrate, even in a supposed apology and you still can’t help having a dig can you ….

oh well never mind ….. we bow to your superiority.

Find you someone who loves you as much as Graham Potter loves attacking us Brighton fans for the shortcomings of his own team.

Find someone with your paranoia and imagination and you'll find some good weed.

Still, great that Potter's quotes are seeing the Albion ridiculed across social media - again.

Its not his quote though, it is a quote from whoever writes the headlines at The Telegraph.

Tbf to The Argus, Acker79 is lying as they didnt use the made up quote.

When you accuse them of making up quotes you are saying at least some of the things in quotation marks are made up. Anything not in a quotation mark is not a quote, it is interpretation or praphrasing.

The headliune was this interpretting/paraphrasing (albeit clickbaity, and now changed to "Graham Potter says Brighton fans shouting 'shoot' is presenting a challenge to players"). Everything the Telegraph put in quotation marks is in the argus article. So the quotes have been repeated (that is, I am not lying).

Given Potter thinks that the fans shouting 'shoot' is challenging for the players, do you think he wants us to keep doing it? Because I think it suggests he would prefer us not to, and as such, interpretting and paraphrasing it as him wanting us to stop doing it is not some egregious journalistic failing.

It's the media narrative game and GP will have to get used to it whether he likes it or not.

If you're winning and playing well, the media will look to identify why you're a genius in all your public utterances, see Klopp, Pep, Biesla for a while

If you've barely scored for half a season then you'd better watch out as every single word you say, as they will latch on to and make you look like even more of an idiot.

This works the same in politics, the celebrity world and other sports. GP would be wise to say as little as possible while results are like they are

a) yeah Kyle is one of a hundred people working with recruitment in BHAFC...
b) it seems to be a lot better than playing Watford football with Watford players

Not much indicating that is the case. Not the most up to date stats but (after 15 games) Burnley, Watford, Aston Villa and Everton were the most direct teams in the league. Three out of those four are also together with Brighton & Norwich in the bottom 5 number of goals scored.

Kyle Macauly is the only "one of a hundred people" who was specifically requested by Potter, has been "by his side" since Sweden and who works "alongside" Paul Winstanly.

Potter also has a specialist at his side who straddles activity on and off the pitch. That is Kyle Macaulay, who has been brought in to work alongside head of recruitment Paul Winstanley.

Or are these English journalist "lying" as well?

If you write a headline as Graham Potter tells Brighton fans: Stop shouting 'shoot'... its putting off our players, then the word "tells" strongly implies he said this, which he didnt. Britannica: "The main meaning of tell is to "say or write something to someone."", which didnt happen. Hence, its a lie.

I dont think he minds or see it as strange that people shout "shoot".

The "Man City build up with Brighton players" approach has comprehensively failed over a long period of time.

"Comprehensively failed" ???

We must be working to different definitions of comprehensive failure, or perhaps you have different expectations.

We have comprehensively failed to win the league. We have comprehensively failed to qualify for the champions league (though our flirtation at the start of the season was fun). We have comprehensively failed to win a cup.

By the same token, I have comprehensively failed to get into Natalie Portman's pants, but I'm not going to give myself a hard time for that.

Sad as it is, the first and most important aim is to not get relegated. Our success there is plain to see (so far).

In my opinion, the "Man City build up with Brighton players approach" is an important aspect of the overall strategy - to deliberately develop players that will be attractive to the elite clubs and therefore give maximum sell-on value. There's less point in developing players to suit the style of a mid-table club as they don't have the champions league millions to spend, AND talented young players will prioritise coming to us because they see a pathway to where they ultimately want to be (Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Man U). If you're a player that needs a premier league 'finishing school' as a shop window for their next transfer to a champions league club, would you choose to go to a club that plays a style similar to the club you want to go to next, or with a style that's more direct?

In the meantime, we slowly develop our squad through coaching and reinvesting, building up a squad (of talented, passing footballers - used to a 'Man Cty style build-up') that starts to compete for mid-table spots, then top 10 and (if the model works as planned) then maybe push on to the top 6 in the (very) long term.

If we stay in the division long enough, one of the striker 'punts' will come off and we'll be flying, but won't ever have bet the farm on one risky push to break into the top 10.

There's no guarantee it'll be a speedy process and there will be ups and downs rather than a smooth upwards trajectory, but I think it's a pretty good strategy to bring about sustainable improvement to the club's league position and finances.

Yes Graham wanted Kyle Macauley to be part of the recruitment team.

What is your point?

yeah not the most up to date stats but it illustrates the point perfectly. generally, if you haven't got particularly brilliant footballers (or players who couldn't give a toss as is the case with everton), you probably aren't going to score a particularly brilliant amount of goals, regardless of the playing style. think a bit of occam's razor wouldn't go amiss on here sometimes tbh

That the recruitment hasn't been particularly great in terms of men's first team, particularly when it comes to players who don't seem capable of finishing a salad never mind a chance.

But it's not down to GP in any way despite the presence of his man in a senior capacity and in terms of choosing the tactics for these players or the drills they do. No. It's the fans' fault

It's the worst home record in living memory, and we clearly have no ability to score goals. Whilst I personally don't find myself shouting shoot, they surely must understand why it happens. It's woeful! Bloody woeful.
